We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious academic fashion photographer / fashion film-maker - practitioner/ researcher to join as a Lecturer on our award winning BA (Hons) Fashion Photography course. You will play a significant role in the Fashion and Textiles Institute, building on it's international reputation and playing a key role in the development of undergraduate study in the discipline. You will contribute to the delivery of this course, considered the strongest course of it's type in the country, through your provision of inspiring and supporting learning opportunities, providing a stimulating and nurturing environment for both students and colleagues. About You The ideal candidate will have extensive industry practise and a substantial portfolio experience working for leading fashion editorial publications and fashion advertising campaigns. Your knowledge and direct experience in the creative practice for image making within the context of contemporary fashion photography, styling and production for fashion film will be evidenced in your working with publishers, fashion editors/stylists, model agencies, photographer’s agents, hair / make-up artists and scenic designers. You will have an in depth understanding and personal experience of the relationship of fashion photography education with the fashion communication industry, both nationally and internationally. You will also have an advanced theoretical understanding of the field of fashion photography, including its historical, aesthetic, social and political development and context. In so doing, you’ll be able to take responsibility for the teaching of students, advising and supervision of students who work with fashion photography as a specific field and its application in multidisciplinary contexts; with the ambition to extend and test the boundaries of what constitutes a photographic practice within the field of fashion, and with interest in and openness to other forms of artistic expression such as film, architecture and sculpture and the possible connections between them. Creative and highly motivated, you’ll be experienced in the challenges of enabling diverse student cohorts to explore the discipline of Fashion Photography, to reach their full potential and to foster new approaches to Fashion Photography practice and research. You will have excellent communication skills and be comfortable in the use of digital media.
