JOB TITLE : Grounds Maintenance Supervisor

What you’ll do:
As a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality of grounds maintenance and tree works. The role involves managing resources, leading a team, and maintaining excellent client relationships. It requires a strong background in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or horticulture, along with supervisory experience. Expected to monitor operational performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Health & Safety: Verify that all necessary documentation and site records, including RAMS and permits, are in place before work commences.
2. Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with Ground Control’s health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
3. Quality Monitoring: Conduct daily quality monitoring of grounds and tree works to ensure high standards are reached in accordance with contract or client specification. Resolve any problems at ground level.
4. Resource Coordination: Coordinate resources, including direct employees, field teams, machinery, vehicles, and equipment.
5. Scheduling & Work Planning: Plan, coordinate, and manage staff rotas and field team work schedules to ensure efficient coverage and timely task completion. Adapt schedules as needed to address workload fluctuations, staff absences, and priority demands. Organise and prioritise daily work assignments, ensuring deadlines are consistently met while maintaining operational efficiency.
6. Machinery Operation: Operate machinery such as hedge cutters, mowers, and hand tools safely and effectively. Ensure vehicles, machinery, tools, and work sites are clean, well-maintained, and presentable.
7. Work Instructions: Issue work instructions to staff and verify task completion.
8. Collaboration & Communication: Work collaboratively with your team to deliver high-quality results. Communicate clearly with managers and colleagues to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
9. Staff Training & Mentoring: Conduct basic training and mentoring for new and existing staff members to enhance performance.
10. Performance Monitoring: Monitor staff performance and address any shortcomings with the Contract Manager.
11. Extra Works: Assist in delivering ad-hoc works as directed by the Contract Manager. Identify, price, and supervise additional works where necessary.
12. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all completed tasks and site visits.
13. Client Meetings: Attend client meetings where appropriate to discuss service performance and improvements.
14. Environmental Sustainability: Support environmental sustainability initiatives through responsible work practices.
15. Compliance & Procedures: Adhere to all company systems, procedures, and technological solutions for capturing and recording work.
What we’re looking for:
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
* Previous relevant experience as a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor or Team Leader.
* Strong knowledge and experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or horticulture.
* Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team or sub-contractors while upholding company values and standards.
* Full, valid UK driving license (essential) as the role requires the use of a company vehicle and mobile phone.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing work environments.
* Experience in planning and scheduling tasks efficiently to meet deadlines.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with team members, supervisors, and external stakeholders.
* Good organisational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
* Experience with modern grounds maintenance equipment and technology.
* Familiar with Health & Safety procedures, correct use of PPE, manual handling and COSHH.
* Flexibility to work outdoors in various weather conditions and adapt to changing priorities.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
* PA1 and PA6 qualifications.
* Familiarity with cost control and resource allocation.
