This is a permanent, part time post (18.75 hours) worked across Monday to Friday with some evenings and weekends.
The service requires a highly specialist Speech & Language practitioner to plan, develop and co-ordinate the Speech and Language Therapy service to young people within a youth justice setting.
This post is based at Leigh Town Hall but will require working within the community.
Substantial specialist experience is required.
This is a development post open to those at Band 6-7 level. Starting salary will be set at the point closest to or matched at existing salary and support provided to progress towards and through Band 7.
Main duties of the job
* To deliver highly specialist clinical work as part of the multidisciplinary team. This includes working with young people within a youth justice setting.
* To provide highly specialist multi-disciplinary clinical input to Wigan Youth Justice Service and work alongside other SLTs working within Youth Justice.
* To assess and treat own caseload of patients maintaining own records as an autonomous practitioner.
* There is a strong support and advisory element within this role.
Job responsibilities
* To assess and diagnose communication issues in children and young people with varying needs in a range of locations including primary and high schools, special schools, Specialist Resources and Youth Justice settings.
* To develop and implement highly specialist speech and language therapy management programmes and to measure and evaluate outcomes.
* To ensure that clients / parents / teachers are involved in the planning and prioritisation of the treatment programmes wherever possible.
* To provide highly specialist advice and programmes to parents / carers and other professionals regarding the management and care of children with complex communication difficulties.
* To independently attend case conferences / reviews / multi-disciplinary meetings.
* To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
* To produce detailed reports, reflecting highly specialist knowledge, regarding clients needs and summarising proposed treatment plans.
* To contribute to legal documents such as Education Health and Care Plans and Annual Reviews.
* To adapt practice to meet individual clients circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences.
* To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with RCSLT professional standards and local trust policies.
* To share information with clients, carers and other professionals, observing data protection guidelines.
* To contribute highly specialist knowledge to multidisciplinary teams to ensure a client focused approach to treatment.

Qualifications
Essential
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent.
* Health Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice.

* Evidence of successful completion of specialist courses up to Masters level equivalent.

* Significant NHS experience at specialist level.
* Relevant experience with transferable skills appropriate to area of clinical expertise.
* Experience of developing and delivering training.
