A Head Chef is the one who runs the kitchen. They tend to take a more hands-off approach when it comes to cooking, instead focusing on running the pass and making sure that the dishes being served are of a high standard. Head Chefs are also in charge of designing the menu, organising the kitchen team, and making sure everything runs smoothly during a service. To succeed, a Head Chef will need:
* Excellent leadership skills
* Good organisation ability
* A proven track record in a management or leadership role
* Understand how to use IT and software products related to restaurant management
* Health and safety training
* Up to date understanding of dining and culinary trends
While qualifications aren't always necessary, it can be beneficial to have a culinary science degree in some cases. That said, a proven track record and experience are normally what prospective employers will look for.
