About us:
We are a medium-sized, 100% small animal practice. We believe that patient welfare and good case continuity leads to better outcomes for our patients and a more fulfilled clinical team. Having our own out-of-hours service on site, staffed by our own, dedicated team of night nurses, means that we can achieve this.
Our RVN’s are highly valued members of our clinical team and the vets who work alongside them treat them as such. Our RVNs are encouraged to work within the full scope of their schedule 3 practice code and can be trained further in areas of interest, such as wound suturing and A-FAST and T-FAST ultrasound scanning.
About the role:
The Night Nurse role is crucial to providing the level of care that we expect at The Veterinary Centre. Having a 24 hours service from 8am on a Monday to 5pm on a Saturday ensures we can provide in house care to sick animals and keep patients in the hospital post-surgery where appropriate.
The main role of the Night Nurse is clinical care of the patients in the hospital. The night shift starts at 7pm which overlaps with the Day Nurse Team for a comprehensive hand over of patients. The duty vet will be on site at the practice until 10pm to ensure plans are in place for overnight care. The on-duty vet will then be available on the phone and at the practice as required after 10pm.

Organisational background and ethos:
The practice has been situated at the same site in Henley for over 40 years. We are now an 11 vet practice with over 50 members of staff working out of our main surgery in Henley and our branch surgery in Twyford. We have built the practice around the ethos of providing exceptional first opinion veterinary care to our incredibly loyal client base.
We strongly believe that two key elements allow us to do this:
1. Staying independent and therefore in control of all our own decisions.
2. Providing our own out of hours service to ensure patients get the best quality care, so that owners see familiar faces whenever possible.
We also have a very strong people culture and when all employees were recently asked what is the best thing about working for the practice nearly everyone responded with ‘The Team’ or ‘The People’. We are not a practice that is primarily focused on making money - instead we prioritise our patients, our customers and our people and believe the business will flow on the back of that.
