Job Description Purpose of the role To ensure that activities of the investment banking division are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, and to help the bank manage legal and reputational risks associated with these activities. Accountabilities Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies to manage risk related to non-adherence to laws, rules and regulations.. Legal advice and support to the bank's investment banking division on legal matters including mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, lending and other corporate finance transactions. Subject matter support in the Legal department’s representation of the bank in legal proceedings related to investment banking activities, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations. Creation and/or review of legal documents for the investment banking division to ensure the bank’s adherence with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Maintaining and updating form legal documentation for the investment banking division. Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws, rules and regulations that may impact the bank's investment banking activities. Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to the investment banking activities. Act as legal advisor to the Investment banking transaction approval committees on laws, rules and regulations. Assistant Vice President Expectations Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues. Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda. Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done. Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function. Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy. Join us as an Investment Banking lawyer – Debt Capital Markets at Barclays where you will provide legal support as part of the Investment Banking Legal team serving the EMEA region with a particular focus on our Debt Capital Markets (DCM) businesses. This will entail providing legal and regulatory support on a variety of transactional and non-transactional matters. Key skills required for this role include: Qualified lawyer in UK or other common law jurisdiction (other jurisdictions may be considered too). Strong knowledge and established experience of Debt Capital Markets Experience gained in either private practice or in-house in a Debt Capital Markets legal team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, shares knowledge proactively, works effectively as a part of a team. Other highly valued skills include: Ability to be effective in a fast-paced, complex and multi-dimensional environment. Ability to adapt and be comfortable working across different levels of the organisation. This role can be based in Manchester or Glasgow.
