The Levels School is an Independent Specialist Day School offering high quality education and exemplary pastoral care to students with a range of complex, specific learning differences that may include speech, language, and communication needs. Our teaching and learning provision would also meet the needs of individuals presenting with a similar learning profile to those with dyslexia and other Speech and Language Communication difficulties. Individuals with these differences often have difficulties with working memory, executive function, and speed of processing. In our experience these learners can often suffer with anxiety and have a low self-concept so we are also able to support vulnerable learners that suffer with fatigue or who may have been out of school due to anxiety. The role of Teacher of English is offered on a full time, permanent basis, although part time hours will be considered for the right candidate. The successful applicant would ideally start in January 25 or sooner if possible. We are looking to appoint a flexible, adaptable and dedicated individual with experience in working with students with SpLD and some SEMH difficulties as a result of their barriers to learning. Main Responsibilities As a Teacher of English at The Levels School, you will be working under the direction of the English Lead, and alongside the SENDCO in heading up the English and Literacy programme. The English Curriculum up to GCSE is delivered and adapted for students with SpLD and those who have a range of complex, specific learning, social communication and emotional difficulties. As a relatively new school (Opened Jan 2021) you will have the opportunity to work as part of a supportive team, developing our English provision working in a dynamic environment where you can make a real difference. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates from mainstream or specialist education. Most students follow a GCSE curriculum with a very small minority taking the ELC. Following an induction and training programme, your duties will include: Facilitate and encourage learning which enables students to achieve Preparing, planning and assessing teaching sessions whilst maintaining an awareness of curriculum developments Making assessments of educational attainment, setting challenging yet achievable targets Build relationships with all young people, which will encourage their interest and participation in their education Creating an environment which is stimulating and purposeful for all students to promote teaching and learning using a variety of multisensory teaching techniques Be aware of the individual needs of each student and work towards providing as near to a bespoke 1:1 teaching experience as possible within small classes of 8 students. The Ideal Candidate You will need to be a qualified teacher with experience of SEND including knowledge of the National Curriculum and the teaching of Key Stages 3, 4. The successful candidate will need to be motivated and enthusiastic with strong pedagogical skills. You will be joining a committed and dedicated team that have high expectations for students and work hard to ensure they achieve their maximum outcomes. Over 95% of students achieved GCSE grade 4 in their AQA English Language GCSE summer 2023. 92% of student achieved 5 GCSE passes at grade 1-9 in summer 24. A passion for your subject is important, as is an enthusiasm for working with students to assist them on their journey, which may have included difficulties in accessing English as it is taught in a mainstream environment. The ability to work as part of a team, is as important as experience, as you will need to inspire as well as teach. You will be able to demonstrate a range of multi-sensory teaching techniques and be prepared to go above and beyond for the young people we support.
