The role: This role is to ensure that all Injection Mould and Extrusion tooling is safe to use and the condition of the tooling is monitored and maintained to a high standard to prevent production downtime or scrap. This is achieved by carrying out planned maintenance checks on tooling according to a priority schedule and repairing tooling breakdowns in and out of the machines. Toolmakers may also be required to carry out precision machining / welding to maintain or repair plant or equipment other than tooling. Key Responsibilities: Ensure the planned maintenance check times are met in accordance with agreed standards. Ensure tools are maintained to the highest standards within the bounds of the Toolmakers responsibility. Assist with insert changes and extrusion PM’s Ensure all tooling is handed over to production in a safe condition Monitor the condition of all tooling and make recommendations for improvements and repairs Provide good Communication for key departments (production and planning) and give clear updates on tooling availability Check EPICOR displays for scheduled insert changes or planned tooling runs (moulding and extrusion) Ensure all relevant data is captured and entered onto appropriate ‘electronic’ systems. Ensure all agreed safe methods of working are always followed and report near misses or Big Six hazards in order to prevent potential accidents. Ensure you are working in accordance with the department skills matrix and all relevant SSW’s have been trained out before undertaking a task. Ensure all machines within the Toolroom are maintained and safe to use and locked off from general use. Ensure that production team leaders are updated with the progress of any breakdown repair work. Monitor Epicor displays and provide support for production according to the display message. Ensure that high levels of housekeeping are maintained within the Toolroom and working areas, including cleaning of machines and clearing of unwanted materials. Work with training coordinator to ensure knowledge, training and development is passed onto relevant new starts or apprentices. Ensure all waste products are separated into their designated containers. Participate in improvement activities such as SMED, Kaizen (continuous improvement) and 6S activities. Identify recurrent tooling problems and work towards a solution. Skills and experience: Toolmaking or similar engineering formal training Milling, lathe and TIG/MIG welding Computer skills: Email, Excel Crane and relevant MHE licences for toolroom department Knowledge of injection moulding tooling and the capability to investigate tooling faults and carry out repairs Knowledge of injection moulding processing Knowledge of Health and Safety and Environmental standards for self and others.
