Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Secondary SEND Teacher to join our supportive team. This role is ideal for an educator passionate about working with children who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will teach across a variety of classes, catering to diverse abilities and needs. The position starts on a temporary basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent contract for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver differentiated lessons: Adapt teaching across a range of subjects to meet the varying needs and abilities of pupils with SEND.
* Create an inclusive learning environment: Foster a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages engagement, confidence, and independence.
* Adapt and implement EHCPs: Deliver tailored support based on pupils’ Education, Health, and Care Plans to ensure individual progress.
* Behavior management: Use restorative and therapeutic approaches to effectively manage challenging behavior and create a positive learning experience.
* Collaborative working: Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, parents/carers, and external professionals to provide holistic support for pupils.
* Assessment and monitoring: Regularly assess and track pupils' progress, celebrating achievements and identifying areas for improvement.
* Professional development: Engage in regular training to stay updated on best practices for supporting SEND pupils.
Essential Requirements
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential for this role.
* Experience working with SEND pupils: In a secondary school or specialist setting, addressing a range of needs and abilities.
* Subject flexibility: Comfortable teaching across a range of subjects or adapting content to meet pupil needs.
* Strong communication skills: With the ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
* Empathy and resilience: A patient, adaptable attitude to working in a challenging but rewarding environment.
* Knowledge of SEND strategies: Familiarity with autism, ADHD, sensory processing needs, and other SEND challenges.
Desirable Attributes
* Experience in a specialist school or working with a diverse range of SEND pupils.
* Training in Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems.
* Familiarity with sensory integration strategies, therapeutic interventions, and de-escalation techniques.
