To provide housekeeping support to the Archer Unit. This involves a range of activities including
food preparation, ordering and monitoring of food and drink supplies as well as serving food and
drink to patients
Take full responsibility for the ward kitchen, ensuring it is a clean and hygienic environment
(Inc. temperature, monitoring, stock rotation, disposal of out of date food and ordering
essential items).
Liaising with the nurse in charge on a daily basis to ensure that medical, dietary and
religious needs are met for all patients.
Ordering food and drink provisions when required to ensure stock levels are maintained
and patients are provided with a choice to meet their needs.
Ensuring that appropriate meals and drinks are served at scheduled times and snacks are
available to respond to adhoc requirements for all inpatients.
Ensuring that all applicable legislative and Trust requirements are complied with and
monitoring and reporting records are maintained.
Ensure the washing up of all crockery and cutlery etc. is completed to correct hygiene
standards. Ordering washing up liquid etc. as required.
Observe infection control procedures.
Supporting the unit team and being a proactive team member.

Exercise judgement when making recommendations for the purchase of cleaning and
maintenance of equipment, infection control and environmental cleaning.
Assist patients with menu choices taking an account of their medical, dietary and religious

Contribute to the analysis of information to ensure compliance to food hygiene standards.

Organise own workload after discussion with the nurse in charge. Prioritising and planning
to ensure patient meals are prepared and environmental checks are carried out.
Responsible for checking stock levels and use by dates of unit food supplies and
associated consumables and ordering when necessary to ensure that a sufficient stock of
in date consumable food and drink ingredients are always available.
Maintain food hygiene records including: fridge and freezer temperatures, food temperature
probe, pest sightings and cleaning schedules.
Occasional requirement to use computer software.
Collate menu requests as appropriate.
Management
Assist with new staff orientation to the unit.
Performance and Quality
Contributes to policy generation in own area.
Comments or proposes change to policies as necessary.
