About the job Summary Defence Munitions (DM) Beith is a Ministry of Defence (MOD) Establishment. It is a component part of the Weapons Operating Centre (WOC) and in turn forms part of the larger Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S). At Beith, we manage the storage, safety, technical compliance and co-ordination of processing and distribution of complex munitions. Job description We are looking to recruit 6 Craft Apprentices to complete a 3-year Modern Apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. The training programme will include the attainment of Core skills at intermediate level one, Performing Engineering Operations (PEO), a National Certificate in either Electrical or Mechanical Systems Engineering and a level 3 SVQ in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering during phases 2 and 3 of the training programme. The first phase of the training schedule will be delivered off-site by our Apprentice Training partner East Kilbride Group Training Association (EKGTA) at their East Kilbride facility. As the training provider is within daily commute of DM Beith, all candidates will be expected to make and fund suitable travel arrangements to ensure their timely attendance between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00, whilst attending EKGTA. The second and third phases of the training programme will be delivered on-site at DM Beith, however apprentices may require some travel to attend additional off-site development training and courses during each of the phases of training. The aim is for successful candidates to start at DM Beith in August 2025 and subsequently commence training at East Kilbride. Responsibilities The primary function of DM Beith is the maintenance, processing, storage and distribution of ammunition and sophisticated weapons. DM Beith provides work-based craft apprenticeships that play an important role and are integral to the provision of business focused training that assists the organisation to meet its business targets and objectives. It should be noted that the post does not offer any allowances within phase one, however allowances to cover travel and subsistence will be valid for additional of site training within phase 2 and 3. Additionally, the post does not offer any assistance with relocation expenses. Qualifications The entry qualifications are Math and English Language plus Physics or a suitable technical/science subject at or above National 5 Grade C or equivalent. Apprentice Selection Test will be held at East Kilbride in June and final interviews will be held at DM Beith in early June. During these interviews you will be asked a selection of question to assess your knowledge and suitability for the post. Given the technical nature of the apprenticeship you will also be asked technical questions to determine whether you have the necessary technical aptitude, competence and knowledge to cope with this challenging academic and vocational training programme.
