To ensure delivery of our projected workload over the coming decade, we have a great opportunity for a Temporary Works Engineer as we expand our in-house technical and design function and develop our Temporary Works Design team.
What you'll do
Our YTL Construction business is a multi-disciplinary design and construct contractor, responsible for the delivery of an annual £160m programme of water treatment, wastewater and network projects across our region.
Based in our award-winning operations centre in Bath, the role will involve undertaking Temporary Works/Construction Engineering evaluations and calculations as part of a team, providing technical input and approval for all internally delivered structural/geotechnical works.
You will be helping to drive the function's development and provide support to project teams as well as other internal stakeholders.
The role involves above and below ground temporary works design to enable new structures to be built or allow modifications to existing structures. The role involves acting as a focal point of contact with the construction and utility teams.
What you'll need
Ideally, you will be a chartered member of an appropriate professional institute, eg, MICE or MIStructE, or you will be actively working towards this.
You will have experience in quantitative and qualitative assessment of existing structures, including design of repair solutions.
You will also need:
* both site and office-based experience in the construction sector
* knowledge of temporary works design; this should cover as many areas as possible, including excavation support, facade retention, tower and mobile crane base, formwork/falsework/scaffold design, shoring/propping and jacking/piling
* a good working knowledge of a range of structural software packages
* to be confident and effective working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
* to be an excellent communicator with all levels of staff from director to site operative
* to be self-motivated and commercially-aware
* to have excellent time management skills so that you can manage your own workload, including utilising consultant support where necessary
* a valid driving licence as you will be required to attend sites to provide reactive support around our region.
