The Forum School
The Forum School and Residential Home is a 52-week residential specialist school providing quality therapeutic care and education for young people with Autism, severe learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and complex needs. The children and young people that attend the school range between the ages of 7 and 19 years and enjoy a school calendar closely linked to Local Authority term dates.
The Forum School is currently working towards reshaping the way in which specialists support young people into adulthood and seeks to prepare them for possible employment and lifelong fulfilment.
Main Purpose of the Job
We are looking for a person who is passionate about developing a deeper understanding of ASD, the effects of childhood trauma, attachment and loss. We are progressing well with our journey of trauma informed practise and the Behaviour Support Assistant will work alongside our Behaviour Support Lead and teams: therapy, education and residential care to deliver consistently excellent approaches and responses.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordination of work with Clinical Psychology and extended MDT team to implement interventions.
* Writing, reviewing and updating Risk Assessments and Behaviour Support Plans
* Support for young people’s positive behaviour
* Observation of team and young people in school, home and community to support and model positive behaviour support
* Planning and support in cases where young people experience crisis
* Development and delivery of training to meet training needs analysis regarding supportive interventions and positive behaviour support
* Staff debrief following any incidents and learnings are recorded and embedded
* Review of incidents through reporting that is completed, processing the reports and provide monthly analysis and annual review
Person Specification
* Experience of a therapeutic educational or residential environment
* Experience of working with young people who may have social care involvement (CiN plans, CP plans, CLA etc.)
* Strong understanding of attachment and loss.
* Evidence of therapeutic training/qualifications.
* Psychological/counselling courses attended is desirable.
* Full driving licence
