A technical or functional role expected to deliver closely defined tasks within company procedures and industry standards. The person will receive clear guidance. In operations they will supervise teams of trades or provide engineering and construction functions. They will provide technical services (engineering, construction) on a site or project. In commercial they will work in a team of estimators, surveyors or designers. They may supervise small groups working on a specific task.
Responsible for the delivery of construction work activities within a geographically aligned area of construction, ensuring that all workloads are achieved whilst reducing costs by effectively managing all resources and be responsible for ensuring a working environment, which ensures the achievement of all safety and environmental legislation, engineering and customer standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Adhere to SHEQ procedures ensuring that safety and quality standards are maintained and delivered.
* Carry out day-to-day supervision of operatives ensuring workflow is managed safely and efficiently.
* Liaise with Local Authorities, supply chain partners and members of the public and the customer at site level to ensure good customer satisfaction is achieved.
* Attend and participate in internal management meetings and contract development work when required.
* Ensure that customer needs are recognised when carrying out the Company’s contractual obligations.
* Manage all construction operational activities within a geographical boundary ensuring that the business objectives of high productivity and low costs are delivered through skilful utilisation of all types of resources.
* Manage and supervise construction delivery teams carrying out replacement, reinforcement and diversions ensuring that all work carried out satisfies all required safety and technical policies and procedures.
* Ensure that all safety and environmental policies and procedures, legislative and statutory obligations are met.
* Monitor workforce operational performance to ensure that all objectives are met and that problems are anticipated and resolved.
* Ensure that all work is carried out to the NRSWA, and be responsible for effective liaison and collaboration with Highways Authorities, Local Authorities and other utilities.
* Monitor, meet and strive to exceed all business performance targets.
* Engender and operate in a culture of zero tolerance of accidents and self-inflicted incidents.
* Continually monitor performance and foster a culture of team working and safety.
* Operate within the appropriate safety management systems as defined by HS(G)65 and HS(G)47.
* Responsible for the health, safety and environmental issues pertaining to direct reports including safe control of operations, permits and maintenance of ISO14001 accreditation. Participation in the relevant standby rota as required.
The Person
* Preferably Incorporated Engineer or equivalent.
* IOSH/NEBOSH certificate holder.
* SCO qualified to the level of Authorising Engineer (1, 2, and 5).
* Knowledge of appropriate legislation, policy and procedures.
* Working knowledge of relevant codes of practice, engineering instructions, safety and statutory regulation.
* Knowledge of appropriate systems.
* Ability to work in a team environment contributing across a project, site or area.
* Good supervision skills, with the ability to motivate self and small teams to perform specific tasks.
* Good planning and time management skills.
* Ability to contribute to meeting standards and specifications.
* Ability to work well either alone or as part of a team.
* Sound knowledge of construction practises and standards within their subject.
* Specialist knowledge in chosen field.
* Good writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to handle situations and problems.
* Know when to ask for help and guidance.
