Do you want to join an award-winning department that puts clinical pharmacists at the forefront of medicines optimisation and patient care? The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.
We are looking for motivated and dynamic pharmacists to join the department at Barts Health to participate in the rotational band 7 pharmacist programme. The programme includes 9 month rotations across the four different sites of Royal London hospital, St Bartholomew’s hospital, Whipps Cross hospital and Newham hospital.
You will work closely with medical and nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team on a wide range of medicines optimisation matters, and to ensure standardisation of medicine policies and procedures wherever appropriate.
You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy department and student placements.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as a Specialist Pharmacist in Surgery to deliver patient focused, quality care, based primarily at Whipps Cross Hospital.
The pharmacist will provide highly specialist and advanced clinical and professional pharmaceutical services to patients admitted to the Surgical assessment unit (SAU) and the surgical ward areas. The pharmacist will be critical care trained and will support in critical care.
You will be a core member of the Trust’s surgical team providing professional pharmaceutical governance, medicines safety, medicines information, medicines finance, education and training and medicines optimisation support to the team and the service’s patients.
The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his/her contract, which may entail travel and working at a different hospital site or in patients’ homes to reflect the requirements and needs of the virtual ward pathway and standard operating procedures.

* Significant experience post registration in a hospital based clinical post including experience in surgery
* Proven experience of good performance in previous posts
* Previous evaluations or reviews of medicines
* Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists/other staff groups
* Experience of working at interfaces of care
* Experience of working with electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) systems

* Independent prescribing qualification or willing to work towards.
* MSc in clinical pharmacy or equivalent

* DBS – Enhanced check with a check of the barred lists required as patient facing may interact with adults / children
* Reliable with a good attendance record
* Flexibility with regard to working hours for late and early meetings
* Ability to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays or backup on-call duties (as required by the department)
