Rate of Pay: £23.03 - £29.98 per hour
Summary:
The Environmental Health Officer will be responsible for managing and delivering specialist environmental health services to maintain and safeguard public health standards. This role involves conducting inspections, enforcing regulations, providing expert advice, and ensuring compliance with environmental health policies. The officer will work collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies, and the public to improve environmental health and well-being in the community.
Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and enforce environmental health policies to safeguard public health.
* Conduct routine and unplanned inspections, collect samples, take photographs, and gather evidence to assess compliance.
* Investigate public complaints and provide guidance to businesses and residents.
* Educate, advise, and enforce compliance through public meetings, inquiries, and direct engagement.
* Take enforcement actions, including legal proceedings and court representations when necessary.
* Collaborate with council departments and external agencies to integrate environmental health with broader public service initiatives.
Qualifications:
* Two A-levels and 5 GCSEs (including Maths and English).
* Degree/Diploma in Environmental Health or a relevant qualification.
* Completion of practical training in environmental health.
* Work experience in environmental health or a related field.
* Additional qualifications in environmental health disciplines are desirable.
Requirements:
* Environmental Health Degree or NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent qualification).
* Proven experience in health and safety investigations, RIDDOR cases, and handling complaints.
* Strong understanding of local authority health & safety regulations.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
