Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Frimley Park Hospital. The post holder will join the existing team of six substantive Consultants.
We are keen to attract candidates interested in innovative ways to move the specialist service forward.
We have a rapidly expanding Technology service and a high performing DAFNE course. We are also the designated hub for regional Diabetic Foot care. We run local MDTs in Adrenal, Parathyroid and Complex Thyroid disease and are affiliated with Kings College Hospital London Pituitary MDT.
Experience in or enthusiasm for antenatal care, Technology or Obesity would be welcome but is not essential.
We are keen to allow you to develop skills outside of the specialty and have strong Educational, RCP and ICB links.
The Medical Directorate provides hyperacute cardiac and stroke services to large areas of Surrey, North Hampshire and Berkshire. We also have on site renal services.
The successful applicant will be involved in providing general medical services to inpatients on a 1 in 3 month rotational basis and will be expected to participate in the acute general medical on-call rota. This is currently 1 in 8 weekends and 1 in 24 weekdays.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have responsibility for inpatients within the medical directorate on one month in 3 rotational basis. They would have outpatient clinics on and off site. Will undertake a share of administrative duties associated with the care of their patients, the running of the Endocrinology department and the Directorate. There will be a minimum of 1.5 SPA. There is a generous study budget for consultants and a post-graduate centre to support Study Leave. There is a helpful on-site Library with on-line journal/article finding support. The post holder will be part of the general medical on call rota which is currently 1:8 weekends and 1:24 weekdays.
The Endocrine department provides a number of specialist clinics including diabetic foot, antenatal, transition, technology and cystic fibrosis. We also have local Pump MDT, Parathyroid and Complex Thyroid MDT and Adrenal MDT and are part of Kings College Hospital, London Pituitary MDT network.
The development of a specialist interest would be encouraged. Current options include Antenatal, Technology and Obesity but are open to negotiation.
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the department with inpatient and outpatient commitments. They will undertake a share of the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients. The post holder will be expected to take part in Departmental Governance and contribute to Audit.
Working for our organisation
The successful applicant will be involved in providing general medical services to patients on the endocrine and general medical ward and participating in the acute general medical on-call rota.
Applicants should have a CCT in Endocrinology and General Medicine, or be within 6-months of achieving this at the time of application.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and the Chief of Service. The Job Plan will be reviewed at 3 months and then annually, following their Appraisal Meeting. The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it includes personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

* MRCP (UK)
* CCT in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine (or within 6 months of achieving at the time of application)
Desirable criteria
* MD/PhD
* Other post-graduate degree

* Delivery of outpatient diabetes and endocrinology care

* Ability to make decisions at the level of a consultant and to lead a team of trainees
* Experience of teaching medical students and trainees
Desirable criteria
* At least 1-year of training in a specialist unit
