We have an exciting opportunity for a Special Schools Nurse who is looking to make a difference today! You will support children and young people with complex health needs to access their education.
The Special Schools Nursing network provides support to children and young people with complex health needs. The nurses assess and identify any care needs that can be delegated to school staff by ensuring that the skill is risk assessed and school staff are trained, supervised and competent to deliver the care appropriate for the student within designated Special Schools.
This is a term-time only role that would suit an enthusiastic Special School Nurse ready to join our fantastic nursing team in New Ash Green, Kent.
Main duties of the job
We work with families and partnership agencies to support school staff and make sure they are appropriately trained and competent for students to access school safely. We want to make sure the school staff understand the child's condition and the potential impact it has on the student and their families.
This role will support the staff who provide one to one care to some of the students with more complex respiratory health care needs. Training in the appropriate skills will be provided plus there is access to a wide training programme at KCHFT.
If you have experience of working with children with complex health needs within a health, educational or social care setting, would like to use and build upon existing knowledge and skills, enjoy training others and working within a flexible and friendly team then this could be the perfect role for you.
A key attribute for this post holder is in demonstrating empathy towards children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their families as well as displaying excellent communication skills.

* Nursing degree or diploma
* NMC registered nurse
* Driving licence and access to own vehicle

* NMC registered paediatric nurse
* Evidence of specialist qualifications relevant to area of practice (mentorship)
Experience

* Experience of recent community/acute healthcare gained through education or work experience placement or previous employment

* Minimum of 6 months post qualification experience
* Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of IT packages (PowerPoint, Excel and RIO)
