Job Title: Team Leader Reports to: Tax Director Position Summary An experienced accounting practice based in Burgess Hill is actively seeking a Team Leader to lead and oversee the accounting team, ensuring efficient workflow management, high-quality client service, and the delivery of accurate accounting outputs. This role involves providing technical guidance, managing client relationships, and driving continuous operational improvements. Key Responsibilities Workflow Management Manage the flow of work using the event schedule to ensure deadlines are met. Create workflows using templates to clearly communicate job requirements and expectations to the team. Delegate tasks effectively and provide regular support and constructive feedback. Conduct weekly check-ins with each team member to review progress and offer guidance. Support team development through encouragement and by identifying training needs. Monitor workflow and reassign tasks as necessary to meet deadlines and capacity demands. Identify and implement process improvements within the team and across the client base. Annual Accounting and Compliance Oversight Oversee the production and review of year-end and management accounts for SME limited companies and sole traders. Ensure accurate completion of compliance work, including payroll, CIS returns, and basic tax tasks. Monitor the accuracy and quality of completed work, addressing any issues proactively. Oversee the preparation and review of company secretarial documents and dividend paperwork. Collaborate with the Tax Director on complex queries requiring specialist input. Ensure all HMRC submissions follow the company’s three-step verification process. Client Relationship Management Manage accounting and basic tax queries, primarily via email, with occasional phone or online communication. Proactively understand client needs to maintain high service standards. Identify and advise clients on changes in the scope of work and liaise with the director for any related fee adjustments. Ensure high client satisfaction through timely and effective communication. Service and Professional Development Identify opportunities for additional services and support their implementation. Encourage the team to engage in business development activities and client referrals. Build and maintain external networks and referral relationships where relevant. Stay up to date with professional requirements through regular CPD and training. Support team members’ engagement in their own professional development. Qualifications and Experience Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a UK public practice. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and TaxCalc Hours of Work 25 hours per week (negotiable), Monday to Friday, with flexibility required to overlap with core business hours.
