Clinical Nurse Specialist Plastic Surgery

This post will be an appointment by plastic surgery services.
The post holder will be required to oversee the general management of the service, including staffing and procurement.
The nurse will be based in the Plastic Dressing Clinic within the Wisdem Centre. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team leader within the service, which provides patients with their post-operative follow-up, including dressing changes and wound management.
Following discharge, the service will be a point of contact for patients for telephone advice and outpatient follow-up.
This exciting opportunity affords scope for professional development. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of tissue viability and post-operative wound management.

Main duties of the job
* Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
* Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy, and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
* A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development.
* Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented, and evaluated/audited.
* Organisation of cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep holder responsibilities as appropriate.
* Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management, including complex patient monitoring, equipment management, and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures.
* Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce, and resource data available.
* Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
* Support patients, carers, and others during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g., imparting bad news or following an unexpected event.

Job responsibilities
* Utilise and ensure others utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce, and resource data available.
* Support patients, carers, and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g., breaking bad news or following an unexpected event.
* Participate in clinic preparation and nurse-led clinics.
* Undertake comprehensive health care needs assessments of patients, changing treatment plans as necessary.
* Provide psychological support for individuals and carers, identifying and involving the appropriate multi-disciplinary services to ensure that the individual needs of the patient are being met.
* Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in their specialty, able to interpret information and take appropriate action, and lead others to do so. Advise and support patients to manage their symptoms, giving highly specialist advice as appropriate.
* Provide specialist care, knowledge, and expertise, whilst being continually aware of the importance of empowering colleagues to ensure dissemination of knowledge and best practice.
* Attend consultant-led outpatient clinics, lead patient consultations, and manage and report on cases as appropriate.
* Ensure that the patients' holistic needs are taken into account in the decision-making process.
* Run nurse-led clinics.
