Our CYP Autism service predominantly provides assessments of possible Autistic Spectrum Conditions but also offers specialist advice and interventions to CYP with a diagnosis of ASC. The service is for Children and Young People in the South Staffordshire area up to the age of 19 and extends to the age of 25 if they have an EHCP.
We are looking for an experienced psychologist to deliver highly specialist support across our Autism pathways but expect that this post will also ultimately have specific responsibility for psychological practice in our Intervention Pathway.
This is an exciting, but also challenging, time to join us. Autism services across the country are facing unprecedented demand. In response, we are improving our service pathways and pursuing our ambition to integrate our wider neurodevelopmental service offer and provide more seamless care to ensure efficient service delivery and an improved patient experience.
The post is full-time but we are able to consider requests for part-time or flexible working. It is a requirement to work at the base and across sites in South Staffordshire but hybrid working will also be a possibility.

Main Duties of the Job
To provide a highly specialist psychology service to Children & Young People in South Staffordshire across three main areas:
1. Assessment of possible Autistic Spectrum conditions
2. Specialist advice and support to CYP with a diagnosis of autism
3. Specialist advice and support to young people (19-25) with an existing diagnosis of autism and an Education & Health Care Plan.
This role will incorporate highly complex psychological assessments leading to psychological formulations of distress; interpretation and opinion; and forming judgements to inform service provision and providing necessary psychological interventions. This will include the assessment and management of more complex presentations. Case formulations will be developed for all children and young people seen, regardless of diagnosis, to inform wider service provision.
To be responsible for the clinical supervision of psychologists & assistant psychologists, and supervising and supporting the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other clinical members of the CYP Autism service who provide psychologically based care and intervention. To include the provision of training placements for Psychologists in Training as required.
Responsibility for developing a specialist service provision will be expected. It is expected that this will develop to include responsibility for psychological practice in the Intervention Pathway in the CYP-ASC service.

Job Responsibilities
The main duties of the role will be:
1. To provide highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions
2. To provide highly specialised diagnostic assessments
3. To participate as a senior clinician in multi-disciplinary case discussions in relation to diagnostic decisions and the management of children and young people in the service with more complex needs.
4. To carry out audit, policy and service development and research activities and/or programmes as required.
5. As a senior clinician with specialist post-qualification training, the post-holder will take responsibility for the development of a specialist area of psychological/service provision across the wider service. This is to include leading or contributing to training, supervision and governance aspects for the specialist provision.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and is eligible for registration as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist and is eligible for BPS registration as a Chartered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
* Good undergraduate degree (preferably relevant to psychological practice).
* Current registration/accreditation with appropriate body with current practising certificate.
* Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by relevant professional body.
* Eligible for BPS Chartered Status. Eligible for full membership of the Division of Clinical or Counselling Psychology (DCP/DCoP).
* Post registration training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice (e.g. neuropsychology, psychotherapy, trauma, attachment) as required for specific clinical post.
* Training in clinical supervision of psychological professionals, including doctorate level trainees.
* Qualification or training in one or more recognised and standardised diagnostic assessment/s for Autistic Spectrum Conditions e.g. ADOS2 and ADI-R.
* Willingness to undertake further leadership development both formal and informal.
* Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
* Member of British Psychological Society
* Registration with other professional bodies as relevant e.g. registration with BPS as a chartered psychologist
* Further training in a specific psychological assessment, model or intervention specific to the role remit/area of work.
Experience
* Substantial experience of representing psychology within multi-disciplinary settings.
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and intervention, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
* Ability to work effectively within safeguarding procedures in the context of a therapeutic service.
* Experience of working as a qualified clinical or counselling psychologist with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient/residential care settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
* Experience of teaching, training and providing professional/clinical supervision to others (including qualified psychologists and other professionals and trainee psychologists) including use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
* Experience of planning and implementing service developments in accordance with local and national policy objectives.
* Experience of employing a range of assessment methods, formal and informal, for ASC
* Experience of supporting people with social and communication difficulties associated with autism.
* Experience of working clinically in settings/services relevant to delivering ASC services for people from 0-25 e.g. ASC, neuro-developmental or learning disability services.
* Experience of working clinically with people who present with challenging or inappropriate behaviours, and/or people who have communication and/or learning difficulties.
* Experience of professional leadership and/or management of qualified and pre-qualified applied psychologists and psychological therapists and/or multi-professional management health / social care services.
* Experience working therapeutically with children and young people with significant behavioural, emotional or mental health difficulties, and their families/carers.

Skills

* Ability and knowledge relating to self-harm and safeguarding related risk assessment and care-planning.
