Due to steady and continued expansion, our client currently has an opening for an Environmental Compliance Manager. Reporting directly to the HSEQ Director, you will have the opportunity to lead the development and improvement of environmental performance and compliance across all group operations and sites, particularly in relation to environmental permits and compliance with relevant directly applicable legislation.
This role would be suited to someone with a broad understanding of environmental topics and a breadth of aligned skills and interests, particularly one with attention to detail and a talent for problem solving.
Core Responsibilities
1. Lead the assessment and management of environmental compliance across the Group, including assisting with routine site monitoring and audits.
2. Support sales, operations, and transport teams with environmental advice and assistance.
3. Compile and submit quarterly returns to the EA and NRW.
4. Develop, update, and review ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems to drive best practice, improve performance, and ensure legal compliance.
5. Assist in the development and delivery of internal environmental initiatives.
6. Assist in the production and delivery of training resources across the Group to ensure an understanding of environmental risk, compliance, and associated legislation.
7. Perform regular site environmental audits, monitoring performance and compliance to ensure sites are operating in line with company procedures, management plans, and relevant permits or exemptions.
8. Regularly report Group environmental performance to company directors.
9. Collate, interpret, and check environmental compliance statistics to ensure data is robust, produce reports on this data, and communicate the findings appropriately across the Group.
10. Liaise with the H&S team on occasion to review operational tasks across the Group ensuring that safety and compliance are maintained.
11. Arrange and conduct external Duty of Care audits of third-party off-taker sites and suppliers, when required.
12. Plan and initiate environmental response drills on operational sites and ensure appropriate pollution controls are in place.
13. Take samples of facility outputs for testing at approved laboratories.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
1. A Degree or Diploma Level Environmental qualification is desired, but we would certainly consider extensive experience alone for a seasoned environmental practitioner.
2. Demonstrable experience in an environmental role.
3. Ability to interpret waste characterisation or soil contamination analyses would be a real advantage.
4. Knowledge of and proficiency in the implementation of ISO 14001 and ideally ISO 9001.
5. Full driving licence and travel between sites will be required.
Salary up to £40-45,000 plus car or car allowance.
