Long-Term Teachers are excited to be recruiting on behalf of a brand new, specialist education provision located in the scenic market town of Tavistock, Devon. This innovative setting is opening its doors as part of a two-site development focused on supporting pupils with Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) and autism-related anxiety. Catering for students from Year 3 to Year 11, this provision offers a safe, nurturing and highly individualised approach to learning for children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
We are currently seeking a reliable and proactive caretaker to become a key part of the school’s foundational team - ensuring the site is secure, well maintained and supports the overall wellbeing of students and staff.
About The Role:
As a Caretaker, you will play an essential role in maintaining the overall safety, cleanliness and functionality of the school’s building and outdoor areas. You’ll support general site maintenance, help coordinate contractors and assist in the organisation of school evanets and daily operations. You’ll also act as a deputy to the Site Supervisor and be a vital point of contact for health and safety matters and site security.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform regular site inspections to maintain health and safety compliance and accurate records
* Act as a joint keyholder, ensuring school security and alarm systems are operational
* Support the site supervisor and provide cover when needed
* Monitor and maintain building systems, grounds and equipment to a high standard
* Coordinate basic repairs and report larger issues to senior management
* Oversee contractors and ensure all work meets compliance and safety requirements
* Assist with event set up and operational logistics as required
* Maintain visual checks on fire extinguishers and ensure fire safety equipment is serviced and functional
Who We’re Looking For:
* At least 2 years of hands-on experience in a caretaking or facilities/maintenance role
* Strong knowledge of building maintenance, healthy and safety procedures and risk assessments
* Ability to work independently,take initiative and prioritise tasks effectively
* Comfortable working around children and young people, with a calm, professional attitude
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Good general DIY and practical repair knowledge
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) or equivalent
* A suitable trade qualification or relevant industry experience
* Level 2 NVQ/GNVQ preferred (Level 1 will be considered with substantial experience)
* Proficient IT and admin skills
* Health and Safety knowledge and experience in a working environment
