Are you a Band 5 Registered Children's Nurse with a minimum of 2 years experience or an existing Band 6 RCN looking for a challenge? Warwick Emergency Department children's area is a busy, challenging and rewarding area to work within.
We are looking for staff who are motivated, enthusiastic, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work within the fast-paced environment of Emergency Medicine. An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 RSCN or dual qualified children's nurses to join our friendly team within the Emergency Department. We have an excellent team of health care professionals dedicated to children's Emergency Care provision and we currently have vacancies for Paediatric Nurses within the Children's area of the Emergency Department.
We can provide a proactive learning environment with access to a professional development nurse as well as many supportive in-service learning opportunities.
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate and provide skilled nursing (without direct supervision) to paediatric patients, in accordance with responsibilities under the NMC Code of Conduct. To effectively take responsibility for the overall management of the paediatric department, maintaining patient care and patient flows in accordance with performance targets. To escalate delays in the delivery of care and management of patients, in accordance with Trust Escalation Procedures, to meet National Performance Targets.
To prioritise care needs, ensuring the delivery of a quality service through effective leadership and efficient deployment of available resources. To contribute to the continued development of nursing, including the supervision of junior nurses and support staff. To demonstrate clinical expertise and be an effective role model.

Job responsibilities
Organisational
Ensure all Trust wide and departmental processes, protocols, and procedures are understood and adhered to by all staff. Ensure strategies are in place to enable the A&E performance targets to be met; escalating, as per the Escalation Policy, to the appropriate level when needed. Completing breach analysis during each shift. Manage staff sickness ensuring that the department has minimum safe staffing levels; escalation to Clinical Nursing Lead if appropriate cover is not maintained. Assist in the investigation of complaints/clinical incidents as necessary.
Foster good working relationships with other paediatric wards and departments within the Trust. Supervise junior staff through a shift, prioritising and delegating as appropriate. Manage all resources to the maximum benefit of patients and the service, being aware of resource implications specific to the department. Promote effective communication within the nursing team, to patients and carers, visitors, members of the multi-disciplinary team, and external agencies, receive and report sensitive information. Participate in the setting, implementing, and monitoring of organisation and local objectives.
Promote and participate in collaborative working relationships with the multi-disciplinary team. Act as a positive role model for other staff. Act as an advocate for patients. Utilise clinical and risk assessment skills to maintain a safe environment.
Clinical
To be competent to assess, plan, deliver, and manage episodes of care, participating in all aspects of care from arrival through to discharge/admission/transfer. To be an effective practitioner and demonstrate the ability to deliver a high standard of patient care. Organise the method of care delivery within a clinical area; prioritising, allocating, and delegating effectively.
To identify and act upon situations which may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of patients. Liaise with other agencies and professionals to ensure effective patient management and care. Support and guide junior staff in delivering high standards of nursing care. Monitor, maintain, and review regularly standards of care in conjunction with other members of the multi-disciplinary and safeguarding teams. Maximise opportunities for health promotion and health education.
Act as a resource person to others, providing information to junior staff, multidisciplinary team members, patients, and relatives. Initiate and take part in clinical audit. Keep abreast of new developments in paediatric nursing and specialty-specific information. Be competent in appropriate areas of role expansion, and support this development in others. Be professionally accountable for own actions during working shift. Promote and comply with all NMC professional standards.

Take responsibility for own personal and professional development, maintaining clinical credibility and competence at all times. To provide leadership and support to all staff, ensuring clinical practice is up to date and evidence-based. Have effective communication skills at all levels. Early informal management of complaints with the aim of satisfactory resolution. Ensure appropriate escalation when this is not achieved.
To abide by Infection Prevention and Control policies relevant to your area of work, and undertake the necessary level of training. This will be appraised through the KSF review process or other relevant professional review process. To accept responsibility for the provision of effective prevention and control within the Trust in liaison with the Trust's Infection Control Team. To act as a role model in applying good infection control practice and ensure compliance with all infection control policies.
Strategic and Service Responsibility

To assist in the development of relevant standards, protocols, and procedures in conjunction with the multi-professional team, ensuring that clinical practices are evidence-based and benchmarked against best practice. Ensure compliance with all Trust policies and procedures at all times. To assist in the investigation and take corrective action relating to untoward incidents, accidents, and complaints in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
Be aware of child protection guidelines together with strategies to safeguard vulnerable children. Seek guidance and support from senior staff where necessary. Maintain awareness of current nursing practice/research with particular reference to own working area, evaluating and disseminating findings. To support and participate in departmental clinical research activities, and assist in the implementation of any appropriate research findings.
Health & Safety
Assess and monitor risk in own other practices/settings. Act on the findings, thereby ensuring safe delivery of care. In accordance with the Health and Safety at work act comply with the Trust's Health and Safety policies and procedures. To take all reasonable steps to prevent injury to yourself, fellow employees, and others affected by your actions or omissions at work.
Be responsible for reporting any defects relating to departmental equipment and any hazardous or potentially hazardous areas of work. To ensure accurate completion of clinical incident forms in accordance with Trust Policy.
