Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a neonatal nurse to join the dedicated neonatal research service at Leicester, in order to gain insight and experience in all aspects of study trial and delivery. The post is for 15 hours a week, split over 2 days, and will ideally be suited for an experienced neonatal nurse looking to further develop their career.
Previous involvement in research is desirable, but not essential; however, you must have, or be working towards, a neonatal clinical qualification and be able to provide evidence of continuing professional development beyond mandatory training. A secondment or clinical job share may be considered with agreement from your line manager. The post is funded for 2 years.
Main duties of the job
* Delivery of high-quality research.
* Use clinical expertise to provide professional support and education to the multi-professional team (research-specific training will be given).
* Act as an advocate to patients and carers within the neonatal research service.
* Ensure the highest standard of care in accordance with NMC Codes of Professional Conduct.
* Uphold and maintain Good Clinical Practice at all times.
* Be adaptable and able to work autonomously.
* Liaise with all levels of staff and demonstrate excellent communication and organization skills, with attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously paramount.
* You must be computer literate and able to navigate around multiple, complex databases with ease and in accordance with GDPR.
* Cross-site working and occasional weekend work will be required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Work alongside Principal Investigators and the research team to assist in the delivery of a high-quality research service of clinical expertise, professional advice, support, guidance, and education to the multi-professional team, patients, and carers within the research service.
* Develop a sound understanding of research design methodology and have an awareness of current national systems and structures for the approval, management, and monitoring of clinical research in the NHS.
* Evaluate patient eligibility and recruit to neonatal trials with suitable training and in accordance with GCP guidelines.
* The post-holder will ensure the highest standard of care is delivered to research subjects and their families, in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
* The ability to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care is essential, as is the ability to manage one's own workload, problem-solve, and use initiative.
* The post holder must have excellent IT and database skills.
* Competent to check and administer IV, SC, and oral medication and understand the importance of blinding in studies involving IMPs.
* The appointee will also be required to process biological samples.
* They should be adaptable, flexible, and show initiative. In addition, they need to show good communication skills, be able to liaise with all levels of staff, demonstrate good organization skills and attention to detail, have good time management skills, and be flexible as the working hours may not be fixed and will include cross-site and occasional weekend work.
Person specification
Clinical Skills and Professional Qualifications
* Qualified in Specialty / Working towards QIS.
* Minimum 2 years experience.
* Can check and administer Oral, SC, IM, and IV medications.
Research Experience
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Current Good Clinical Practice certification.
* Has specialist research experience or a willingness to undertake.
* Has knowledge and understanding of trial management and regulatory requirements.
Communication and Organisational Skills
* Excellent IT and Database skills.
* Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care and work autonomously.
* Able to provide training and education to all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three-month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
