Job Title: Transport Planner Location: Manchester Contract: Permanent Salary Range: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum Working Days: Monday – Friday Working Hours: 04:00 am – 14:00 pm (1-hour unpaid break, 45 hours per week) Role Overview: Our client is looking for an experienced Transport Planner to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of Drivers and resources, including PAYE Drivers, Independent Service Providers (ISPs), and Agency Drivers, for the safe and efficient movement of freight. The role involves utilizing an in-house system for same-day movements to ensure operational efficiency across the distribution network. Key Responsibilities: Planning and Coordination: Plan and route drivers' schedules to ensure all timed services are met.Ensure vehicles are correctly loaded and routed, with attention to detail.Optimize the use of company vehicles and Independent Service Providers.Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements, including driver hours and vehicle safety. Customer and Client Interaction: Handle inbound calls from customers and drivers, addressing queries efficiently. Record relevant client details via the company’s data management system. Ensure the highest customer service levels through a quick response to client needs. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Operational Efficiency: Ensure minimum waste of resources and value for money, especially regarding subcontracted haulage. Maintain effective communication with the warehouse team to minimize loading issues. Follow proper procedures for informing depots about missing freight. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with EU driver hours regulations and BSI management systems. Complete all necessary documentation for compliance and company reporting. Team Collaboration: Support the Depot Manager in achieving goals and fostering positive relationships within the team. Promote a collaborative and efficient working environment. Experience and Qualifications: Essential Skills: At least 1 year of experience in a logistics or warehousing environment. Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK. Strong knowledge of manual route planning and vehicle load requirements. Working knowledge of EU driver hours regulations and courier requirements. Proficiency in using IT systems and data management tools. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Desired Attributes: Strong organisational and planning skills.
