Nursing on our inpatient unit gives an exciting opportunity to practice in a setting that prides itself on delivering holistic care where 60% of patients are discharged and our average length of stay is 2-3 weeks.
As a key member of our specialist multi-disciplinary team, you will be working with patients with highly complex needs to achieve best symptom management and personal goals.
Comparatively high nurse to patient ratios allow the satisfaction of engaging in meaningful relationships with patients and families and delivering high quality care.
This role will suit experienced nurses who thrive in a dynamic environment and respond well to challenges.
We have an onsite Clinical Educator and offer access to in-house development and support external education where this is identified in our staff development and appraisal process.
This is a role where two days are never the same and you have the chance to improve the experience of patients and families when life is most vulnerable.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for nurses with a range of clinical skills, excellent communication and team working skills, who are competent with or ready to learn about complex medication administration and have a desire to develop their practice and make a positive impact on those they care for and support.
Previous experience of working in End of life care, Oncology or life limiting conditions are not essential but will be advantageous.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Assess, implement, review and evaluate care needs for designated group of patients.
* Demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.
* Maintain overall standard of care for patients at all times.
* Engage in educational and development roles.
* Be responsible for maintaining one’s own NMC Registration including maintenance of clinical portfolio.
* Be aware of and adhere to all relevant NMC Codes of Practice and Advisory Papers.
* Be accountable for maintaining a safe and responsible approach to the sphere of practice acknowledging the holistic needs of the patient and families and the Philosophy of Hospice Care.
* Work within the agreed policies, procedures and guidelines identified for the sphere of practice.
* Ensure at all times a good role model is presented to other members of the hospice team.
* Provide nursing care to the patient according to their specialist palliative care needs and commence and update plans of care as required.
* Coordinate and lead care for an allocated group of patients.
* Demonstrate a commitment to developing own critical analytical skills.
* Engage in clinical training as relevant to role.
* Fulfil practice supervisor role and once appropriately qualified and experienced, practice assessor role for nursing students.
* In conjunction with other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
* Attend weekly Multi-Disciplinary Meeting and communicate decisions to team members.
* Maintain accurate and legible written and electronic records in accordance with NMC guidelines.

* Attend face to face mandatory training and complete e-learning within a timely manner as per hospice policy.

* Take responsibility according to Hospice policy for patient’s property and valuables.
* In exceptional circumstances and with direct support of senior clinical staff take responsibility for the management of the unit in the absence of other senior clinical staff.
* Be prepared to represent the Hospice at both specialist clinical events and also fundraising events.

* Work within agreed Hospice grievance, disciplinary and whistle blowing procedures.
* Supervise non-nursing staff as required.
