Trading Development Manager / Head of Technology (C#) / Technology Transformation – Birmingham office / Hybrid Working
European Trading Software House (headquartered in the US) seeks a dynamic and innovative individual to work in a dual Head of Technology & hands-on Development Manager role, managing the technology team, whilst concurrently leading and transforming my client’s technology.
This is a hybrid role where you’ll need to work 2 days per week in my client’s Birmingham office, but you can work 3 days from home wherever that is in the UK. The office is open 5 days per week, so if you prefer, you can also go into their Birmingham office 5 days per week though.
So this is a fantastic opportunity for someone who maybe commutes to London now and wants a role closer to home OR wants to move away from the London / South-East and move closer to Birmingham but continue working in Trading Technology senior leadership roles (normally all based in London).
You will be joining the company’s executive team, so this is a senior position with a lot of autonomy so you’ll decide how you want to manage your time (officed vs home working), you’ll inherit a team that you’ll directly manage, but also be expected to hire new technologists into the team to help with the technology transformation and on-going company growth.
Already one of the leading energy/commodity trading software providers in Europe (and growing globally), my client is very ambitious and wants a similarly ambitious Head of Technology to work very closely with their Solutions Architect to shift and lead this new technology transformation.
You’ll report into the Chief Information Officer (CIO), who will be available as needed, but this role is a very autonomous role, looking for a strong:
* Technologist, so someone who really understands and is passionate about technology, especially C#. This is NOT a Solution Architect role though, you’ll have a Solution Architect doing that role for you, but you’ll need to really understand technology
* Technology Leader, so someone who has strong people leadership skills and experience
* The ability to work in a dynamic technology change and transformational role, taking the lead and driving these technological advancements and ensuring my client remains best in class for technology now and moving forwards
You’ll be working on C# technology so it is 100% essential that you have a strong C# development background and ideally some experience working on Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform.
Salary: £100-135k basic + executive scheme management bonus + benefits
Key skills & experience
* 10 years+ commercial experience gained working in software development, with 5 years+ experience managing Development Teams
* It is essential that you have a strong C# development background
* This person could currently be a Development Manager and be looking for a step up into a Head of Technology role, or already be a Head of Technology (and happy to also be the Development Manager) and be looking for a more exciting company and challenge
* You’ll be joining an energy/commodity trading software house, so it’s essential that you have some previous trading experience, working for either another software house (fintech or ETRM etc), OR an IT consultancy working with trading businesses OR for a trading business leading development / technology teams. As such, you’ll understand the challenges and complexities of trading and leading trading technology teams
* Previous experience recruiting IT teams, training and developing staff is highly desirable as this is a core part of this role
* Previous technology change and transformation experience would be ideal
* Degree educated ideally, but this is NOT essential
