Enhance team and player performance in all set play situations by providing specialised 4 corner expertise, advanced analytical insights to assess team and opponent performance, and develop innovative and successful set play strategies in close collaboration with the England Senior Team coaches.
With the increasing and dedicated focus on set play specialisation, this role provides the opportunity to make a significant impact on England Senior Team performances and shaping the approach across all National teams. In addition to the day-to-day delivery for the England Senior Team, the role will also involve educating and upskilling the England pathway coaches/analysts whilst advancing the England DNA+ in elite-level set play principles, strategies, and player development trends.
What will you be doing?
* Conduct detailed analysis of set-piece performances of England Senior Team opponents, identifying their strategies, tendencies, strengths, weaknesses, and exploitable opportunities.
* Work alongside England Senior Team coaches to design and deliver creative offensive and defensive set play strategies and principles.
* Develop and present engaging, clear reports and presentations to coaches and players.
* Support on pitch training sessions by assisting with set play specific drills and providing detailed analysis, whilst working off field with players to improve specific set play individual development.
* Provide real-time in-game analysis of set plays and suggesting adjustments to maximise opportunities through actionable feedback to coaches.
* Create and maintain comprehensive video database and data-driven reports of England and opponent set play routines and performance metrics/benchmarks.
* Monitor weekly performances of England Long List players and provide player insight reports on set play performance and development throughout the season to support squad selection decisions.
* Design and deliver workshops for England pathway coaches, focusing on the latest set-piece strategies and elite-level trends and work with the Head of Coaching to help shape the development of age appropriate set play specific principles of the England DNA+.
* Support the Head of Coaching in reviewing the effectiveness of our set play work in training and in games.
* Stay updated on the latest trends and innovations in set play strategies across elite football including detailed analysis of high-performing and innovative routines across the Premier League and International competitions.
What are we looking for?
Essential for the role:
* Proven experience in set play analysis/coaching within Senior and Academy elite football environments.
* Proven experience of dealing individually and collectively, with Senior Professional and Academy aged footballers.
* Experience of innovative, age-appropriate teaching of set plays according to time and player numbers available.
* Deep understanding of set play tactics and strategies, with an up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends across the Premier League and Europe.
* Proficiency in analysis software such as Hudl Sportscode, Studio, Matchtracker.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
* Build exceptional, collaborative relationships and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Effective time management and organisational skills, able to work under pressure.
* Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Beneficial to have:
* UEFA A License (or equivalent).
* Proven ability to design and deliver engaging workshops / knowledge share events for coaches, focusing on tactical and player development.
* Experience of creating progression-based learning pathways to enhance coaching competencies over time.
* Experience of working with Data Analysts to establish more efficient / automated workflows and deliver strategic projects.
* Knowledge of player set play profiling in scouting and recruitment.
* Familiarity with psychological aspects of player preparation for high-pressure set play scenarios.
* Background in biomechanics or kinesiology to enhance player-specific set-piece techniques or tools such as Trackman.
