The Senior Health and Safety Manager Role
The Senior Health and Safety Manager Role will be for Retail and overseeing Supply Chain. Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Facilities, this role is accountable for developing and implementing the organisational health, safety and fire strategy, providing expert advice to the organisational stakeholders on health, safety and fire matters, and influencing and contributing to the development of organisational policies and procedures.
The position holder will be required to:
1. Communicate health and safety performance and initiatives across the organisation.
2. Act as the primary point of contact for health and safety matters with external stakeholders.
3. Report on incident trends and statistics.
Responsibilities include:
1. Strong implementation skills, an excellent communicator and a team leader with a proven track record of developing compliance with health & safety.
2. Engagement of all levels of an organization to improve the overall safety culture.
3. Embedding the ownership and accountability of health & safety within site management teams while maintaining operational awareness.
4. Keeping abreast of legislation and compliance requirements, assuring business awareness and facilitating any changes required to maintain a legal business operation.
5. Building working relationships with governing bodies, local authorities and primary authorities' partnerships.
6. Support the development of the strategic business plan with particular regards to H&S initiatives, projects, and targets.
7. Lead all legal compliance requirements for the business, auditing as necessary to identify any gaps.
8. Lead and assist in gap planning needs, offering solutions and guidance.
9. Develop and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.
10. Keep key business duty holders informed and instructed.
11. Build business strategy around health and safety management.
12. Develop a site management system for the control of health and safety, meeting the requirements of relevant guidance.
13. Develop and lead the H&S Team & wider teams on health and safety projects.
14. Provision of an effective safety monitoring and control regime including programmes of visits, inspections, spot checks and audits, prioritising high-risk activities.
15. Forecast, review and control of budgets for health, safety and Fire Strategy.
16. Work with all relevant key stakeholders (Store Operations, Distribution Services, Property, Legal) to develop and maintain a positive safety culture.
17. Collaborate with other stakeholders to support the business units with Pest Management controls.
18. Provide comprehensive training programmes on safety procedures and compliance requirements.
19. Lead the businesses risk management software agenda to ensure a data-driven system is in place.
20. Manage the health and safety team.
21. Set suitable KPI's for the delivery of H&S and Fire strategy and review direct reports' performance.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essentials:
1. Relevant health and safety experience gained in a multi-site retail/service industry.
2. Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety Qualification.
3. Fire Safety Qualification.
4. Memberships within Health & Safety/Fire Organisations i.e. CMIOSH, MIFPO.
Desirable:
1. Experience in Transport Occupational Health and Safety.
2. Road Risk Experience.
3. Experience in contract management, procurement and governance contracts.
4. Experience with Primary Authority Partnerships.
5. Experience in Pest Management.
6. Experience in Pharmacy/Healthcare sector.

Hours: 37.5 | 9.00am - 5.30pm - Hybrid working available depending on role responsibilities with 2 days working from home and 3 days in our stylish, modern and collaborative office close to East Croydon Station.
