An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Junior Training Fellow Doctor in Neonatal fixed term for 12 months. This post will provide an excellent chance to further develop your skills in the Neonatal Department.
The post will follow the Junior Tier neonatal rota on a 1:11 rota. The post holder will work alongside Senior tier doctors and Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (covering purely neonatology) and a neonatal consultant.
The Neonatal department consists of 9 consultants who all have an area of specialist interest or responsibility.
The post is not recognised as a formal training slot. However, the on-site training opportunities will be the same as the other ST1 or above doctors.
Key Tasks Will Include:
* Working under the supervision of the neonatal consultants.
* Carrying out ward rounds on the Transitional Care Unit and discussing management plans with the senior tier.
* Attending high-risk deliveries and providing appropriate newborn resuscitation.
* Supporting the Senior tier doctors and ANNPs in carrying out examinations on babies who meet the criteria for a paediatric Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and entering the data onto the SMART4NIPE database.
* Completing admission/discharge paperwork on the Badger database for babies admitted to the NICU and TCU.
* Communicating with parents of babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Transitional Care Unit, postnatal wards, and after discharge, as required.
* Carrying out investigations on babies on the NICU, TCU, and postnatal wards, as required, under the supervision of the tier 2.
* Carrying out practical procedures, according to level of competence, under the supervision of the tier 2.
* Participation in the neonatal education programme, including the opportunity to carry out an audit/quality improvement project.
* Opportunities to attend the Neonatal Outpatient Clinic as and when the rota allows.
* Working as part of the MDT of neonatal consultants, middle/junior doctors, ANNP, and the neonatal nursing team.
