If "YES" please keep reading. Merthyr Council is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Engineering and Highways team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating a range of key traffic and road safety projects.
Role: Design Engineer
Pay rate: £55.00 ph
Location: Unit 5, Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil (looking for someone who is located in South Wales to enable them to carry out site visits and attend the office at least once a week in Merthyr)
Job type: Full time, 37 hours per week (would consider less hours depending on the candidate)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead design projects.
2. Plan, manage, and control projects, finances, and resources.
3. Supervise construction.
4. Re-profile project costs and make engineering decisions.
5. Direct, develop, and train engineers.
6. Liaise with the Engineering Project Team.
7. Conduct and administer procurement.
8. Liaise with external consultants and statutory bodies.
9. Produce technical drawings.
10. Develop design standards and council policies.
11. Establish monitoring systems and manage databases.
12. Support the Senior Design Engineer and team members.
13. Carry out duties as required by the Head of Engineering & Highways.
Essential Requirements:
14. HNC or Degree in Civil Engineering
15. Welsh Language Level 1 (can be completed within one month of employment).
16. Experience in designing traffic, road safety, and highway schemes.
17. Proficient in AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office applications.
18. Knowledge of Project Management.
19. Experience in bid preparation and implementation.
20. Full UK car driving license and use of car.
Desirable Requirements:
21. Ability to develop project briefs, prepare tenders, and oversee procurement.
22. Knowledge and experience of using asset management database systems.
23. Progressing towards Chartership.
24. Experience in supervising contractors and construction work.
25. Experience in key stakeholder engagement.
