Recruiter: Natasha About this client/child: Chris (16) and Matthew (22) are brothers who live in a lovely home in Camden with their mum, dad, and brother Adam (18). Chris is an energetic young man who thrives on being active and engaging with the world around him. He loves relaxed theatre performances, and sports activities, and he currently attends special needs dance, basketball, drama and music groups. Chris is at his happiest when he’s on the go, discovering new places and experiences. He loves talking with people and asking them questions about their lives. Matthew enjoys walking, his favourite weekend activity with his carers is exploring London by foot, whether through city streets, along riversides, or in parks, often via public transport to reach new spots. Matthew enjoys Music more than anything, it has a powerful effect on his mood, calming, uplifting, or exciting him depending on the style. He particularly enjoys when people sing or play music for him and seems to connect with music on a deeper level than with spoken language. Both brothers have a genetic metabolic disorder, which primarily presents as a learning disability. Chris is verbal and has recently learned to read. He is growing more independent; he can use the toilet independently but still needs some support with self-care. He can walk and requires full support with all aspects of daily living, including personal care. He also takes medication three times daily for his metabolic disorder, and medicine for epilepsy, which is very well controlled; he has not experienced a seizure in many years. Overview of role: This is a truly fantastic role, where you'll start by supporting Chris in all the activities he enjoys most You won’t be expected to take sole responsibility for both Chris and Matthew, the family is supported by a wonderful team of long-term carers. As you settle into the role, it would be a bonus if you’re also able to occasionally support Matthew, whose needs are more complex. Chris has a wide range of interests, and weekends with him are active and full of variety. With London on the doorstep, there’s no shortage of exciting things to do, and the family would love their new Support Worker to take a proactive approach in discovering fun and engaging activities tailored to the boys' interests. You’ll also have the opportunity to plan and organise trips that reflect what they love. Some light domestic duties related to the boys are part of the role, making their beds, preparing lunch, and keeping their spaces tidy. The family have a second home in Suffolk which the boys and carers visit, sometimes without the family. In time, you might want to take advantage of this location for your trips. It offers plenty of fun, with swimming, sailing, and even mud sliding in the estuary Reliability is absolutely essential, as Chris can become anxious with unexpected changes to his routine. The family is seeking a long-term commitment of at least two years, as consistency is crucial for Chris’s emotional regulation and development. Your consistency and commitment will help him feel secure and thrive in your care. Who this job would suit: An energetic, positive and upbeat person, with lots of enthusiasm for working with young people. Perhaps an experienced LSA, who is looking for additional hours on the weekend. You’ll be reliable and have genuine enthusiasm to engage with Chris on weekends and support his continued learning and development. What’s great about this job: Chris and Matthew are an absolute joy to work with, and their home is filled with warmth and happiness.
