Our client, Stoke-on-Trent, is looking for a Principal Building Control Surveyor to join their team.
To support the directorate team to deliver high quality professional Building Control service for Stoke-on-Trent City Council and partner authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the team manager in having operational management responsibility for staff covering the Stoke-on-Trent City Council area, subject to the Strategic manager's guidance for statutory building regulation and associated advisory services.
2. Deputise for the team manager as required.
3. Ensure that the local authority fulfills its legal regulatory function and national minimum performance standards.
4. Assist in developing plans, policies, and procedures to support the directorate's objectives.
5. Promote and develop a high-quality approach to service delivery.
6. Support the overall running of the directorate as a member of the senior leadership team.
7. Lead in securing, developing, and managing lead authority agreements between the city council and other building regulation providers.
8. Secure additional work through marketing and professional expertise.
9. Act as the Building Authority and licensing authority concerning safety matters relevant to sports grounds.
10. Manage responsibilities related to high-rise buildings, particularly fire escape considerations.
11. Fulfill statutory responsibilities related to dangerous structures, including out-of-hours functions.
12. Manage the partnership with Newcastle under Lyme Council as the partnership board manager for the North Staffordshire Building Control Partnership.
13. Carry out any other duties as required by the service.
Strategic Management:
1. Support the Team Manager in service delivery and developments.
2. Work closely with the Team Manager team to agree on priorities for development and change.
3. Administer and service partnership boards of officers and elected members in connection with business planning.
4. Direct the development of a marketing strategy to counter external competition.
5. Engage with existing and new key clients to explore new market areas.
6. Expand partnership arrangements under the lead authority scheme.
7. Propose local building regulation fee regimes for corporate approval.
