We have an exciting opportunity for candidates to work within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team on a wide range of UK projects that include strategic residential and mixed-use development sites and infrastructure projects within their Manchester office, where you will be given the opportunity to take the next step in your career.
Work involves early engagement at the due diligence or feasibility stage, with a focus on pre-planning protected species surveys, assessments and mitigation design through to post planning works.
You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including habitat restoration, biodiversity conservation, and environmental impact assessments.
As a medium sized multi-disciplinary consultancy, they are able to offer the experience of working on high profile, large infrastructure projects comparable to the much larger organisations, coupled with a variety of medium sized projects including residential, urban regeneration, mixed-use, schools and strategic land and finally, smaller stand-alone ecology survey projects.
You will also be involved with, and become an expert in, BNG (Biodiversity Net Gain), ensuring that the legal requirement of each project is met in respect of the natural environment being left in a measurably better state than it was before the project began.
With a requirement to meet the needs of their local clients and to support colleagues in other disciplines, a key aspect to the role will include regular co-operation and inter-office working.
Day to day activity will be different and exciting, allowing you to use your skills in a variety of ways that will improve your knowledge and contribute towards the success of the services on offer.
Ideally you will have a demonstrable track record in some or most of the following:
* A thorough knowledge of ecological legislation and planning policy in the UK.
* Ideally have experience in both linear infrastructure and property development projects.
* Desire to become, or already have, full Membership of CIEEM and/or Chartered Ecologist status.
* Have circa 3-6 years experience in ecological consultancy or related sector.
* Excellent report writing skills for PEA reports, EcIA, Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and BREEAM 2018 Assessments.
* Experience of people management and ability to lead and develop a team.
* Be able to work autonomously with excellent communication (including technical report writing) skills and an ability to prepare fee proposals.
* Be able to undertake ecological surveys and desk-based studies to a high standard.
* Technical review of reports.
* Public enquiry experience or input would be of benefit.
* Have a solid understanding of conservation legislation and protected species licensing, ideally holding at least one survey/handling licence for a protected species.
* Understand the EIA process and have experience in undertaking Ecological Impact Assessments and have experience in undertaking or contributing to ES chapters would be an advantage.
* Be able to provide pragmatic, commercially aware ecological advice to our portfolio of major clients.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
