The Company develops and supplies sustainable solutions for challenges in crop protection, animal health and consumer products based upon two key technology platforms: plant-derived active ingredients with a broad range of biological activity and a patented microencapsulation technology derived from yeast extract.
The role
We are looking for a biology laboratory technician to join the biological efficacy team, who would perform various lab-based activities mainly to support testing on plants, insect pests and pathogens. The role also involves supporting senior members of the team on assay set up and contributing to the growth and maintenance of various plant species, plant pathogens and insect pests.
The core responsibilities include:
· Conduct the daily and weekly tasks of the biological efficacy laboratory.
· Grow and maintain stocks of plants, insect colonies and help culture plant pathogens.
· Support tasks such as setting up and evaluating insect bioassays.
· Record images and data in the corresponding project database.
· Keep consumables/ biological material in stock, ordering items when necessary and keeping inventory up to date.
· Perform equipment checks routinely.
· Perform general housekeeping of the labs.
Key skills and requirements
·. Applicant must have the right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not possible for this role).
· Degree in Biology/ Entomology/ Natural Sciences or similar.
· Basic to intermediate experience working in a laboratory setting.
· Basic to intermediate knowledge of laboratory-based tools and equipment (e.g. use of micropipettes, laminar flow hood, autoclave, growth rooms and incubators, etc).
· Ability to read, understand and follow technical procedures.
· Excellent communication skills, time management, proactive problem-solving abilities, adaptability to change, and great attention to detail.
· Able to work effectively both in a team environment and independently
· Evidence of scientific creativity and independent thinking
Desirable skills
· Experience working with insects and an understanding of entomology
· Experience in experimental design, planning and execution.
· Knowledge of bioassay development
· Basic knowledge in microbiology work, including an understanding of aseptic techniques.
· Knowledge in plant pathology and physiology
· Experience handling Microscopes
· Familiarity with COSHH
· Experience using iOS operative system
· Experience using project management software Asana
· Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point.
· Experience using Image J
We are located in Milton Park, Oxfordshire and would require the candidate to work on site 5 days a week.
