The Shift Manager will ensure the effective and efficient maintenance and operation of the plant, machinery, and services.
To improve performance, maintain quality and keep the Engineering team motivated by minimising downtime and effectively utilise resources.
To work as part of a team in this hands-on role, standing in for the Engineering Reliability Manager where required.
Responsibilities
* Effectively prioritise, coordinate and control engineering tasks, materials, and resources to ensure efficient continuity of production and flow of information throughout the Engineering Function.
* In conjunction with production management, ensure the continual availability and safe operation of efficient plant and machinery, across all shifts.
* To recommend, support and introduce improvement initiatives to improve team performance, and to develop a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
* Maximising production output through effective rectification of machine faults, preventative maintenance work and continuous improvement activities.
* Recommending, supporting, and introducing improvement initiatives to improve departmental, team and individual performance and efficiencies.
* Ensuring all documentation and recording systems are maintained to high standards on a daily basis.
* Maintaining a high degree of both product and personal safety in accordance with HSE requirements, ensuring adherence to all legislative requirements, and by the implementation and auditing of risk assessment controls and HACCP.
* To carry out root cause analysis on all significant lost time events, and provide corrective actions and timeframes for completion.
* To manage the purchasing of parts and services cost-effectively to achieve the annual engineering budget.
* Ensure that all legal compliance checks are carried out on-site.
* Assist in the facilitation of daily engineering handover, reporting on KPIs and outstanding works.
* Ensure that delivery of agreed SLA standards is maintained for Service Contracts, where appropriate.
* To facilitate the capture of relevant performance data of machinery to assist in the effective management of process performance.
* To be aware of the framework for managing all contractor activity on site, both within and outside production hours and ensure all activity is managed accordingly.
* Assist in any people-related matters.
* To ensure the site complies with relevant environmental legislation.
Qualifications
Qualifications to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Required Skills
* Proven track record in engineering and fault finding.
* Experience working in FMCG environment or a similar fast-paced manufacturing operation.
* Multi-skilled engineering background.
Preferred Skills
* Formal qualifications in food safety and health & safety management.
* Experience of writing procedures for GMP relevant to maintenance function within the food industry.
* Experience in leading the application of Continuous Improvement techniques and Lean Manufacturing Principles.
