Salary: £52,805 - £57,280 Closing date: 09/03/2025 Department: CA Strategy/Research/Economy Location: GMCA Division: Strategy Team Hours Per Week: 36.25 Your role: A great opportunity to provide 13-month maternity cover within the Strategy Team as Transport Strategy Principal. The GMCA Strategy Team provides core day-to-day support to the Mayor, GMCA leaders and the wider organisation including with advice, briefing and external engagement. This is an exciting and fast-paced leadership role working within the Transport sub-team, providing high quality support and advice to the Mayor, Transport Commissioner and Active Travel Commissioner. You will work closely with colleagues across GMCA, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and partner organisations to support the development and delivery of GMs transport priorities to help deliver the Bee Network, Greater Manchesters integrated London-style transport system. This role involves leading the transport sub-team, maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and supporting the Mayor in their capacity as Chair of the Rail North Committee and as a Transport for the North Board Member. On any given day, you could be briefing the Mayor, Transport Commissioner, and Active Travel Commissioner, drafting speaking notes for a conference, working with TfGM on policy implementation, or engaging with external stakeholders about transport policy developments. About you: You should have a keen interest and e xtensive knowledge and understanding of transport policy, including the political and policy landscape around transport and devolution. You will have an excellent understanding of the roles of national government, city regions and local authorities in the delivery of transport. You will have experience of working with senior politicians or senior officials and you will need to be able to communicate effectively and concisely with these audiences. You should be organised and methodical but also enjoy a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities and a demanding workload. You will be expected to work under your own initiative, so well be looking for someone with excellent self-motivation and the ability to take responsibility. Experience in leadership, policy development, and working in a complex partnership environment is essential.
