Ecological Clerk of Works/Environmental Advisor – Fulltime Position
Nàdarra Ecology are a small environmental consultancy based in Dumfries and Galloway.
We are looking for an experienced Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW)/Environmental Advisor with a pragmatic approach to problem solving and good people skills to join our expanding Nàdarra Ecology Team. As a key member of the team, you will work on various exciting infrastructure projects across Scotland, including renewable energy projects (wind and solar), marine (harbour) projects, reservoir projects and grid infrastructure projects. Nàdarra Ecology is based in Dumfries and Galloway and the role would primarily be a site-based post working initially on projects in Southern and Central Scotland but with the potential to work throughout Scotland, including the Scottish Islands. Nàdarra Ecology have an office in Dumfries but working from home when not on site would be considered.
As well as the ECoW role you would be required to undertake detailed ecological surveys, protected species licencing and reporting, assisted by our ecologist where required. At Nàdarra Ecology, our Ecology Team work on a variety of projects, undertaking ecological surveys for large-scale complex commercial developments including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. We undertake all aspects of ecological consultancy and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and statutory requirements. We are known for our high-quality delivery and ecological expertise and will expect candidates to work to our high standards at all times.
What you would be doing
1. Monitoring protected species and protected habitats on site.
2. Input and monitoring of compliance with relevant management plans e.g., Construction Environment Management Plan and Peat Management Plan.
3. Liaison with construction site staff on a daily basis, through provision of toolbox talks, attendance at site liaison meetings, and provision of constructive advice on ecological protection measures and solutions as required.
4. Maintaining thorough records of ecological sensitivities, issues requiring action, advice provided, and any steps taken or discussed to ensure mitigation and legal requirements are met.
5. Monitoring and advising on pollution prevention measures.
Skills and experience required
1. Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or significant on the job experience.
2. Experience of applying ecological principles to construction projects and working knowledge of surveying and reporting.
3. CIEEM membership, or willing to work towards CIEEM membership.
4. Experience of working on Infrastructure or large construction sites, preferably in Scotland.
5. Competence in survey and mitigation design for protected species.
6. A comprehensive understanding of SEPA Controlled Activities Regulations (CAR), relevant guidance, and environmental legislation.
7. Competency with standard MS Office applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (GIS skills desirable).
