At the Department of Immunology, Landspitali -The National University Hospital in Reykjavik, Iceland we have an exciting job opportunity for a medical doctor with subspecialty training in allergy/clinical immunology and/or laboratory immunology.
We are a closely knit department with emphasis on research, innovation, and clinical service. We provide a wide range of services for our patients. Specialized laboratory services are a large part of our commitment within the fields of allergy, immunodeficiencies, autoimmune, rheumatic, and immunological diseases. The department serves a central role in Iceland in research, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of patients with allergic, immunodeficiencies and complex immune mediated diseases.
Focus of Our Department's Activities:
1. Laboratory testing for service and diagnostic purposes within the field of allergy and immunology. We are the only specialized allergy/immunology laboratory in Iceland and serve the entire nation.
2. Clinical outpatient services for patients with allergies (airborne, food allergies, drug allergies etc), asthma, immunodeficiencies, autoimmunity and other immune mediated diseases.
3. Teaching and training of health professionals and trainees.
4. Scientific research, both basic science and clinical research in the field of allergy and immunology. We take great pride in this aspect of our department.
The Immunology Department thus serves the entire nation within the field of allergy and immunology. We provide patient service through our laboratory testing as well as outpatient clinic and are greatly involved in teaching and research. We work in close collaboration with the University of Iceland and serve a teaching role within many divisions such as the Faculty of Medicine. In 2023 the Immunology Department received accreditation from The World Allergy Organization as a 'Centre of Excellence'.
We take great pride in our working environment. The Immunology department is built around 30 FTE's including physicians, nurses, biomedical scientists, and other healthcare supporting staff. We put a great pride in our work ensuring that our healthcare science teamwork at the forefront of research and innovation, to provide our patients, the best possible care. Main Projects and Responsibilities:
1. Interpretation of allergy/immunology laboratory results.
2. Clinical and laboratory consultations from doctors related to our field of expertise.
3. Oversight and management of specialized laboratory tests.
4. Outpatient referral clinic at the University Hospital for allergy/immunology cases.
5. Development and implementation of new laboratory research tests within the field.
6. Strategic planning of our laboratory services in collaboration with supervisors.
7. Other projects reflective of the individual's knowledge and experience.
8. Clinical consultation within field of expertise.
9. Teaching, research, and innovation.
Qualifications:
1. Medical licence, preferably within USA, UK, or EU.
2. Subspecialty training/experience in clinical and/or basic allergy and/or immunology.
3. Engagement in further specialization in consultation with supervisors.
4. Enthusiasm, positive attitude, flexibility, and good communication skills.
5. Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
6. Experience in teaching and research is preferable.
7. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
