Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) is recruiting up to four General Practitioners with a Special Interest in Ear, Nose, and Throat (GPwSI) to join our growing ENT medical team.
Main duties of the job
The Role:
As a GPwSI in ENT, you will play a vital role in delivering outpatient clinics, providing specialist advice, and working closely with ENT consultants and primary care colleagues to improve pathways and patient outcomes. Responsibilities include:
1. Conducting outpatient ENT clinics (averaging two per week);
2. Triaging referrals and offering Advice & Guidance to primary care;
3. Providing education & training to GPs and healthcare professionals;
4. Developing care pathways to integrate ENT services within primary care and the community;
5. Contributing to service improvement and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Job responsibilities
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has comprehensive facilities for the diagnosis, care and treatment of ENT disease. The successful candidate will be expected to provide ENT services in conjunction with colleagues and will contribute to the development of ENT services as follows:
Clinical
1. Assessment, investigation and treatment of patients referred to the service;
2. Triaging of referrals received by CHFT as well as providing Advice & Guidance;
3. Provision of a range of clinical interventions as appropriate to the commissioned service (e.g. micro-suction, flexible nasal endoscopy, audiology, etc.);
4. Links with other services to ensure that the full holistic needs of the patient are met (e.g. audiologist & hearing aid services, vestibular physiotherapy, speech and language services etc.);
5. The knowledge to signpost patients to other support services, including local and national patient support groups.
Education and liaison
1. Provision of advice and support to local practitioners through non-face-to-face contact (e.g. telephone, internet) in the management of those ENT conditions within the expertise of the GPwSIs.
2. Provision of support and training to GPs and members of the primary healthcare team in the management of common ENT conditions.
3. Liaise with and provide support for other ENT GPwSIs in the area and via Community ENT Group nationally.
4. As part of a well-integrated service, GPwSIs should have good access to and support from secondary care specialist services.
5. Work with local secondary care specialists and other groups managing ENT conditions to develop an integrated ENT service model.
6. In collaboration with other members of the local health community, develop and implement management guidance in the care of common ENT conditions.
7. Become involved in integrated training programmes across primary and secondary care for medical, nursing staff and extended primary care team members.
8. Work with patients, the public and service providers to support an integrated, patient centred approach to commissioning services.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practice.
* MRCGP or equivalent.
* Other higher degree (PhD, Masters).
* Specialist registration for ENT (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK).
Experience and Achievements
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the ENT specialty.
* Understanding current issues within ENT and the future direction of the specialty.
* Understanding current issues within the wider NHS.
* Attendance at a recognised management course.
* Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions.
Teaching and Training
* Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
* Training in clinical and educational supervision.
* Attendance at a teaching course.
* Formal qualification in teaching/education.
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects.
* Good communication and empathy skills with patients.
* Evidence of willingness to participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment to provide an integrated service.
* Ability to work as a member of a team, both through communication and sharing workload.
* Ability to manage high pressure situations e.g. clinical crisis.
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload and co-ordinate staff.
* Ability to integrate the care of a patient by many and various other clinical staff.
* Willingness to work flexibly to deliver clinically effective and cost effective healthcare.

* For areas requiring EPP Clearance (Exposure Prone Procedures), this will also be a requirement of the health screening.
* An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
