We are a friendly, genuinely supportive and active department looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who will take part in the high-quality delivery and development of the anaesthetic and chronic pain services on the Isle of Wight. Due to expansion of our Intensive care services and strengthening out of hours specialist cover we are expanding our intensive care consultant workforce. The successful applicant will join our current 6 ICU consultants. Our critical care services are firmly embedded in the regional Thames Valley & Wessex Adult Critical Care Network. Our ICU is having regular informal and formal peer review meetings from the regional Thames Valley & Wessex Adult Critical Care Network which both strengthens the relationship with our neighbouring hospitals as well as ensuring ongoing improvement and delivery of excellent care. Main duties of the job This is a replacement post within the Anaesthetic Department at the Specialist Grade Doctor level and will include Consultant and middle grade level responsibilities. The post holder must be able to work to a high level of performance, autonomy and independence. The post is 10 PA and we have outstanding links both with our partner hospital Portsmouth University Hospital and the regional tertiary centres. We recently had a GIRFT review with overall very positive feedback. The successful candidate will be on the consultant on call rota in hours and the resident middle grade rota out of hours. As the consultant on call post holder will be expected to support colleagues with any emergency or difficult cases that arise, supervise less experienced anaesthetists, and be part of decision making when operational issues arise, to ensure clinical safety & efficiency.
