Job Title: Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

Reports To: Clinical Lead for Respiratory Medicine or equivalent
Role Overview:
The Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine provides expert clinical care in the diagnosis and management of respiratory conditions. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care and contribute to the ongoing development of respiratory services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Care: Deliver expert respiratory care, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and sleep disorders.
2. Consultations: Conduct outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, and ward rounds, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive patient management.
3. Procedures: Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures, including bronchoscopy, pulmonary function tests, and sleep studies.
4. Emergency Care: Provide immediate care for patients with acute respiratory conditions and contribute to emergency on-call services as required.
5. Patient Management: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management, lifestyle modifications, and follow-up care.
6. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other specialists, including general physicians, cardiologists, and surgeons, to provide integrated patient care.
7. Teaching and Supervision: Participate in teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
8. Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and protocols.
9. Research: Where applicable, participate in or support research activities related to respiratory medicine.
10. Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
1. Medical Degree: MBBS or equivalent, with full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice.
2. Specialist Training: Completion of specialist training in Respiratory Medicine, evidenced by a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent.
3. Experience: Significant post-training experience in Respiratory Medicine, with a proven track record of managing complex cases and performing relevant procedures.
4. Skills: Excellent clinical, diagnostic, and procedural skills in respiratory medicine; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
