Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
A bit about the role
Our Intensive Supervised Structured Care service in Ayrshire works with vulnerable and high-risk young people aged 13 to 20 with significant social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Our aim is to provide a safe and nurturing environment which enables our young people to understand their behaviour, make positive choices, and thrive. We support them to develop confidence, self-esteem, and life skills, engage in education/training/employment, and feel included in the wider community.
As a Team Leader, your role involves coordinating robust case management for our young people. You’ll take the lead in delivering key outcomes through a multi-agency approach under the GIRFEC framework. Your focus on risk management aims to empower young individuals and build their resilience while ensuring their safety. Demonstrating a high standard of person-centred practice, you’ll serve as a strong role model for the staff team, emphasising leadership skills and a strong belief in reflective supervision.
We want our young people to feel loved and cared for, and every day is an adventure, so you’ll get to have fun whilst shaping the futures of our young people.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
Some key responsibilities for the Team Leader role are:
* Having a good understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable, care-experienced young people.
* Having a good understanding of the challenges of working within the management team in a residential childcare setting.
* Having the confidence and ability to engage with other professionals and contribute meaningfully to multi-agency meetings.
* Preparing care plans and risk management reports.
* Having good leadership skills and the ability to provide support and guidance to the staff team.
* Being a creative thinker and having a solution-focused approach.
Let's talk about you
* An SVQ Level 4 in social care is desirable but we are very open to relevant experience, rather than a qualification.
* The ability to motivate and lead a team, supporting and making decisions under pressure.
* Working with children, young people, their families and carers to promote and ensure the safeguarding and welfare of the child/young person.
* The ability to evidence a high standard of written and verbal communication.
* Experience of leading a team/supervising staff in a similar role.
* A robust knowledge of GIRFEC and outcomes-based models of practice and service delivery.
* SSSC registration.
Good to know
Please note we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
Diversity, equality and inclusion
At Action for Children, we're dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. We actively encourage applications from Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic and disabled candidates as they are under-represented within Action for Children. We want to take deliberate and purposeful action to ensure equal opportunity to all groups in society and for Action for Children.
Male staff are under-represented within our Children Service roles. We would like to encourage more male applicants for our Children Service roles.
