Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant Ophthalmologist - Vitreo Retinal Surgeon to complete a supportive team of specialists covering East Herts and West Essex. The post holder will be required to perform a range of vitreoretinal appointments and surgeries on patients with elective VR conditions (e.g., macular holes, ERMs, VMT). You will also have involvement in General Ophthalmology treatment protocols, delivering high-quality clinical care to patients attending the ophthalmology service in the following areas: Elective and emergency vitreoretinal surgery, vitreoretinal clinics, and high-volume phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia if applicable.
Main duties of the job
To be successful in this role, applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently in clinics/theatre. Experience working as an Ophthalmology Consultant is required. Applicants must have also completed at least one year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery.

* FRCS Ophth
* Vitreoretinal experience
* Higher Degree MD(Res) or PhD in a field related to the speciality
Experience
* Experience in the management of Eye emergencies, ocular trauma, and acute general ophthalmic emergencies
* Ability to perform day case cataract surgery independently (including complex cases)
* Relevant experience in the NHS with related subspecialty interests
Skills
* Experience of supervising trainees and teaching to an MDT
* Previous formal teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate level
* Participating in Audit / Clinical Governance
