Compliance and Sustainability Assistant
Fresh People are currently looking to recruit a Compliance and Sustainability Assistant for our Fresh Produce client based in Maidstone. This role will support the Technical, Compliance, and Sustainability teams in ensuring product safety, quality, legality, human rights, and environmental sustainability across the supply chain, maintaining the company's commitment to operating responsibly.
The Candidate
Suitable candidates must have experience within the fresh produce industry with strong compliance, auditing, and sustainability knowledge. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems and customer audit requirements is essential.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Support the Technical Director, Head of Responsible Sourcing, and Sustainability Coordinator in maintaining product safety, quality, legality, and sustainability standards.
2. Manage and maintain accurate supplier due diligence records including Global GAP, SEDEX, BRC, LEAF, Organic certifications, and pesticide compliance.
3. Liaise with suppliers to collect and update all necessary food safety, ethical, and environmental documentation.
4. Communicate supplier approval status to internal teams and escalate any potential supply risks.
5. Compile and review compliance KPI reports, closing gaps in line with targets.
6. Manage due diligence records on Food Experts, M&S SAL, and internal platforms, ensuring accuracy and full compliance.
7. Onboard new suppliers and growers, maintaining Approved Supplier Lists and ensuring timely documentation updates.
8. Monitor compliance throughout the supply period, investigating and recording any non-compliance incidents.
9. Lead residue sample requests and manage ethical audit bookings in line with customer timelines.
10. Perform recall and traceability exercises and support the maintenance of supplier/grower code databases.
11. Stay updated on ESG industry trends and ensure customer requirements are communicated to suppliers.
12. Coordinate supplier Food Waste, GHG, Water Risk, and Sustainable Farming reporting and analysis.
13. Support cross-category compliance, respond to customer data requests, and represent the company at industry meetings when required.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Auditing experience (GMP, HACCP Level 2, TACCP trained).
2. Knowledge of BRCGS standards, customer requirements and food safety regulations.
3. Pesticide awareness and compliance experience.
4. Previous experience in compliance, accreditations, and sustainability reporting.
5. Proficiency in Prophet ERP systems (preferred).
