Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Rheumatology (Equivalent of ST4-8)
6 months Fixed Term position (possibility of extension)
Full Time without OOH commitment
An exciting opportunity has opened up within the Rheumatology Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, which offers candidates the chance to gain first-hand experience of this paediatric specialty working in an exciting and unique environment within a busy children's hospital.
As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, you will be included as a middle grade in the educational and training activities of the department. The workload will be shared amongst 3 Specialist Registrars, 4 Clinical Fellows, and 2 Honorary Fellows. Flexible working is required to ensure smooth handover between the middle grades and provide continuous cover for the inpatients and day cases. This post does not involve an 'out of hours' commitment of long days, weekends, or nights. Annual Leave and Study leave are covered prospectively within the team.
This post is available from March 2025. The post provides ideal experience for someone wishing to further develop a special interest in Paediatric Rheumatology, including those who wish to consolidate their previous experience/training in Rheumatology. MRCPCH (or equivalent) is essential.
Main Duties of the Job
Within the clinical rheumatology service, the workload will be split with 1 SpR and 5 clinical fellows. This will allow adequate time for post holders to attend training opportunities within the working time directive. Annual and study leave will be cross-covered within the team.
The Rheumatology Unit comprises a clinical team of medical staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, clinical nurse specialists, and specially trained nurses for the inpatients. The Head of the Academic Unit is Prof. Lucy Wedderburn and the clinical lead is Professor Paul Brogan. There are a total of 7 consultants. One of these consultants will be in charge of inpatient care at any one time, but all hold regular Outpatient Clinics. Adolescents are cared for at the Adolescent Centre at the University College Hospital, and some of the senior consultant staff work at both sites.
