Job Title: Telematics Unit Project Design Engineer (JP979)
Location: Cranfield
Pay: £30.02 per hour
Working Pattern: 3 days in the office / 2 days at home (this may vary). Requirement is 8-5 core hours Mon-Thurs with 35 minutes for lunch each day. Friday 8-1.20pm with a 20-minute break.
We are seeking a Telematics Unit Project Design Engineer to join a globally recognised automotive company in Cranfield. This is a long-term contract role with the potential to last several years.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implementation of on-board telematics systems for the clients vehicles manufactured in Europe for global markets.
2. Generation and release of TCU configuration data for European vehicles.
3. Managing Tier 1 suppliers to deliver products to Quality, Cost & Timing targets.
4. Coordination of in-house and supplier TCU validation to the clients design standards ahead of new software releases.
5. Collaboration with Off Board Connected Car test teams (both on board and off board) and customer-oriented engineering team to confirm system performance for remote commands.
6. Project manager responsible for coordinating cross carline projects for both on board and off board connected car and infotainment teams.
7. Collaboration with connected car design and test teams to define and maintain project development scope, schedule, and test plans.
8. Manage and maintain cross carline development planner and ensure project engineers maintain development schedules and meet quality targets through all gateways.
9. Collaboration with Telematics Service Providers, ensuring their development schedules are aligned to the clients milestones.
10. Perform design reviews at key milestones.
11. Project milestone to deadlines.
12. Ensure design releases meet schedules.
13. Closure of concerns to required cut offs.
14. Manufacturing plant support where required.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
2. Manufacturing BOM management experience (advantageous).
3. Office 365 tools (including Excel to intermediate/advanced level).
4. Fluent written and verbal English language capability.
5. Demonstrated practical experience in problem-solving tools and techniques, and a strong mathematical understanding.
Required:
1. Experience with Telematics hardware, systems, and knowledge of vehicle connectivity.
2. Understanding of mobile network infrastructure and data transfer.
Desirable:
1. Knowledge of 4G/5G technologies.
2. Knowledge of non-European mobile networks.
3. Knowledge in MQTT.
4. Knowledge in End to End System architecture understanding with Cloud Infrastructure.
5. Understanding in European Ecall regulation.
