We are proud to have a growing network of c. 600+ stores and superstores, and 4 new distribution hubs and online marketplace across the UK. In 2023/24, our Retail & Ecommerce team raised a record-breaking £134m towards our life-saving work.
We’re looking for a Management Accountant to take ownership of our Trading directorate’s accounts. In this role, you will be responsible for owning the management accounts and month-end activities, while ensuring appropriate financial controls are in place. This will involve collaborating closely with the Senior Management Accountant, wider finance team, and Retail & Online Marketplace stakeholders while ensuring they have accurate management information to inform decision-making.

What Will I Be Doing?
* Owning and delivering timely, high-quality, and accurate management accounts and other business-critical reports for Cancer Research UK’s growing network of c.600+ stores, 4 distribution hubs, and online marketplace (P&L of c.£100m with c.£120m income).
* Commenting on balance sheet variances and supporting the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team and Senior Management Accountant (Retail) in interpreting management information, understanding major variances, and answering queries.
* Supporting budget holders to interpret management information, understand variances, and answer management accounts or budget queries.
* Reporting on retail headcount and costs (such as retail technology costs).
* Collaborating closely with the Assistant Management Accountants and Finance Analysts in your specified areas to ensure monthly transactions (e.g. accruals and prepayments) are processed accurately and on time.
* Identifying and implementing improvements and efficiencies in management accounting processes.
* Supporting the year-end audit and accurately producing the annual report and accounts for your business areas. This will involve contributing notes to the accounts and handling audit queries as required.
* Being a key finance point of contact for your specified areas ensuring appropriate financial controls are being adhered to while challenging and offering solutions to stakeholders as appropriate.
What Skills Will I Need?
* Finalist or qualified Management Accountant (or by experience) with experience owning and delivering accurate management accounts and month-end activities in large, complex organisations.
* Has previously owned the management accounts for large cost centres.
* Clear communication with a proven ability to build collaborative and credible relationships, effectively managing a high volume of stakeholder queries with professionalism and efficiency.
* IT Literate with strong Excel skills - has manipulated large, complex data sets with multiple thousands of rows of data and is comfortable using multiple systems and Excel functions (e.g. VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Sumifs etc). *There will be an Excel exercise as part of the interview process.
* Can meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and effectively managing expectations.
* Either immediately available or on one month’s notice or less with the ability to learn and pick up responsibilities quickly.
