General Assistant (Cleaning & Catering) Job Title:General Assistant (Cleaning and Catering) Location: Barking & Dagenham Job Type: Permanent, Term Time Only We have a new and unique opportunity for a number of General Assistants to join our facilities management team. As a General Assistant you will provide essential support to our cleaning and catering operational teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality services in a safe, hygienic, and customer-focused environment. This role involves maintaining cleanliness, assisting in food preparation, and delivering exceptional service to customers, and colleagues. This role is specifically designed to accommodate working parents with a flexible schedule aligned to school hours, ensuring a balance between professional and personal responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Cleaning Duties Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitising surfaces. Maintain cleanliness in common areas, kitchens, dining areas, and restrooms. Safely handle and store cleaning products, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. Dispose of waste appropriately and support recycling initiatives. Catering Assistance Assist in food preparation, including washing, peeling, and basic preparation of ingredients. Set up and clear tables, serving areas, and kitchen equipment. Ensure all kitchen and dining areas meet hygiene and cleanliness standards. Deliver food and beverages to customers as required. Customer Service Provide friendly and professional service to staff and visitors. Respond to queries and requests in a polite and efficient manner. Support colleagues in maintaining a positive and team-oriented work environment. Health and Safety Comply with all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Report any hazards, maintenance issues, or accidents to the supervisor. Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and cleaning protocols. Qualifications, skills and abilities: Strong attention to detail and ability to work to high standards of cleanliness. Basic food preparation skills or willingness to learn. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Awareness of health, safety, and hygiene practices. Previous experience in cleaning, catering, or similar roles is preferred but not essential. Basic understanding of food hygiene and handling (Food Safety certification is beneficial, although we can provide training. Willingness to undergo any training required (such as COSHH, Food Hygiene, Allergens, H&S etc.). Working arrangements: Term Time Only Monday Friday Hours: 30 - 35 hours per week (Mon Fri), with either morning or afternoon contracts available ensuring compatibility with school drop-off and pick-up times.
